This week we have been continuing to work on fractions. We’ve been learning about equivalent fractions and representing fractions in different forms.
We were learning to build circuits and investigated which materials can conduct electricity. We kept a note of our results and then wrote a scientific report based on our findings.
We also started chess again this week in preparation for our chess championship restarting next term.
This week we were learning a different spelling rule. We continued to do work on our book study War Horse. We were also writing a report about Alexander Graham Bell.
We were learning Scottish dancing with Mrs McCaig in PE.
We have been learning about fractions in numeracy. We learned that to calculate 1/3 – we would divide by 3. P7 had Pipe Band on Wednesday and P6 are started strings again on Thursday afternoon.
We were learning about propaganda and what it is. We looked at different posters from the time of WW1 and we were able to identify how the posters were designed to make people feel.
We were also learning about different bridge structures and created and designed our own bridges. We are still in the process of building these.
We had Monday off so on tuesday we started a new book study called war horse after war horse we started doing division in maths and in the afternoon we started our new topic ww1 to link up with our book. On Wednesday P7 had pipe band and we also read some more of our book. Thursday we had Miss Smith a substitute teacher as Miss Burleigh was moving all our stuff into our new class, with Miss Smith we did fun games in gym such as dodge ball, everyone’s it, and tunnel tig, and on Friday p7s had a rugby session in the morning and then the who school had a Robert Burns show in the afternoon.
What a brilliant week we have all had. We packed up all of our things from the Dorms & had a fun morning orienteering on the beach and throughout Culzean.
We went for our final feast of pizza and some ice-cream. We rounded off our week with a campfire and toasted some marshmallows. We found out who were the winners & got the most points from our Dorm inspections – well done to Lee, Leighton & Orren. We said a massive thank you to Neil, Jim, Steve, Calvin and Jim, as well as all of the other staff who made sure we had the most amazing stay.
We started off our day with a fab breakfast! We collected our packed lunches & packed up our outdoor kit bags. We went on the minibuses to Loch Doon to climb The Wee Hill of Craigmulloch. We learned lots of different map reading skills, how to use a compass & how to safely help & carry someone who may have sustained an injury, to a nearby road or access point for the emergency services.
We are also the only school so far, where every single person has climbed all the way to the peak. ⛰
We celebrated all our amazing achievements for the week & danced the night away at our disco hosted by the one & only Captain Calvin.
Day 2 has been another fantastic day filled with fun & excitement. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we got all kitted up & went to explore the caves. We had great fun hearing about the smuggling that took place & exploring and scrambling through different parts.
After lunch we split into 2 groups & went on a mountain bike trail around the park and the other group completed archery then we swapped over.
Tonight we were learning all about different rocks & went searching for some on the beach.
What a busy start we have had to our P7 Residential! The first challenge of the day was making our own beds. Then we all got kitted out in our outdoor gear. We went on an exploration walk & played some games.
Tonight we went to the adventure park & played Hidey tig with our head-torches.

What a busy few weeks we have had in P6\7, from our fantastic performances of Panto Pandemonium, playing some fun games and dancing all afternoon at our Christmas Party, helping to lead our Christmas Service and finishing off our week with a trip to the cinema.
We hope you all have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year.
What a busy few weeks we have had in P6/7. We’ve been at The Institute making lanterns for Make Catrine Sparkle, we’ve been learning new notes in strings, and P7 have been learning to play different instruments at Pipe Band. P7 also had a visit from Mr Ferguson and Mr McGurn last week as part of their transition to The Robert Burns Academy.
This week has been full steam ahead with our show rehearsals and we can’t wait for you to see the whole production next week.
We have also started to watch Wonder this week, allowing us to compare the differences between the book and the movie.
