An Exciting Week For P6

This week we participated in our Euroquiz Heat. All pupils who participated were in teams of 4 and worked together to answer 60 questions all about Europe. These questions centered on topics such as Culture, Geography, Language, History, Art and Sport amongst others. We certainly enjoyed our time participating and learning all about Europe!

On Wednesday, we made Chicken Stir Fry with Mrs Cook. We prepared all of the ingredients and got to use a range of equipment. It was very tasty.

We also arranged and completed the set up for a literacy afternoon with our Buddies.

We have almost reached the end of our novel study, Holes, and cannot wait to finish this off next week. We completed a metalinguistics task and also some other jobs from the task map. We also began our final drafts of our stories, writing them up, illustrating them and designing front covers. We are excited to finish these next week. In numeracy we were learning about percentages and relating our new learning to what we know about fractions.

Week ending 21.03.25

We have been learning to join our letters in handwriting. We have been using Metalinguistics to help us understand our novel study. We began writing our resolutions and conclusions to our stories. We have continued to develop our knowledge of equivalent fractions and improper fractions in maths.

On Tuesday we went down to the nursery for our Teddy Bears Picnic.  This week we have also participated in Earth Hour, we designed posters to promote our in-school Earth Hour which took place today. While we Powered Down for Earth Hour this afternoon, we practiced for Euroquiz which is next Thursday!

Our Week

We began to use tissue to create spring butterflies in Art. We are scrunching up the tissue paper and gluing it on to create texture.

We practiced for Euroquiz alongside a previous years recording. We worked in pairs to create a whole class timeline about events in Europe’s history.

We continued to work on our handwriting with Mrs Cook. We worked on task maps for our novel study ‘Holes’. Today, we continued our narrative writing by adding a problem into our stories which we will resolve next week.

In maths we learned about improper fractions and we completed a stations lesson which had various activities to help us learn how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers.

We also played a hockey tournament in PE with Mrs Cook.

Our Cool Week in Class

This week was World Book Day. On Thursday we designed our own front covers for books, we played ‘Who Am I?’ with book characters, completed a character quiz, we did an alphabet challenge for our novel study ‘Holes’, and wrote book reviews for our favourite books.

In PE with Mrs Cook we played some Hockey games. We also had our final Leadership session until after Easter, during this we had a chance to lead different sport stations to our groups.  We continued to work on our Handwriting with Mrs Cook which we are loving doing. We have continued to work on our Task-maps and engaged in some really interesting discussions about the themes within our book.  We also continued to work on our fractions with Miss Higgins and kilograms and grams with Mrs Cook. Finally, we made some Spring themed art.
