Our Week In P6

This week marks the start of Term 3 in which we will be exploring many different topics.

To start our week we have began our new class novel study – Holes by Louis Sachar.  We will also be learning about narrative writing.

We began to explore fractions within numeracy and have learned about fractions in relation to decimals.

During our art lesson we explored the use of different media to create a picture, pupils used a mix of coloured pencils, pens, oil pastels and crayons to do so.

In PE we participated in a range of team games, including Capture the Flag, and Rats and Rabbits.

There are some very exciting things happening for P6 this term. Firstly, we will begin our whole-school topic of Scotland. During this term we will be learning a Scots Verse, pupils will be chosen to perform their verse. The verse we will be learning is ‘Up in the Morning Early’ by Robert Burns . All pupils have been given a copy of this poem to help them practice.

Secondly, P6 will also be competing in Euroquiz 2025. This is a competition held across Scotland in which Primary 6 pupils compete against each other in a quiz about Europe. The questions relate to geography, languages, history and culture. We will be exploring Euroquiz as a class and will study Europe as a topic later in the term.  Euroquiz have a website which contains many resources as well as previous questions from the heats and finals from 2018-2023. We will be exploring these as a class, however, if any pupil is interested in doing some extra exploring, the resources can be found at this link: https://scilt.org.uk/Primary/Celebratinglanguages/Euroquiz/tabid/8651/Default.aspx
