World War 2 – STEM Challenge
Primary 6 have been busy completing a STEM challenge. They had to work together to create a tank design and use the materials they were given to assemble their finished product!
Great work as always P6 😃
Numeracy
We are learning about tenths, hundredths and thousandths and used concrete resources to show our understanding of decimal numbers.
Quentin Blake Exhibition
Primary 6 spent this morning at the Quentin Blake Exhibition at the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock. They took part in a workshop which taught them how to draw in the style of the famous illustrator; and also got a chance to dress up and model for their groups! As you can see from the pictures, they had an absolutely amazing time!
World War 2 – Anderson Shelters
Primary 6 have been learning about Anderson Shelters and were tasked with building a model version. They used various different junk materials, as well as natural items such as leaves and twigs. The end result was absolutely fantastic – Primary 6 have set the bar high for their next STEAM challenge!!
World War 2 Speeches
I am one proud teacher today – Primary 6 have absolutely blown me away with their amazing speeches on influential figures during World War 2.
We have learnt about so many amazing and interesting people, including great grandparents and uncles Murdo Campbell, John Green, Ellen Smith, Alexander Campbell, Pearl Costello, Robert Adamson, Ronald and Edna Snelling, Lawrence and Mavis Ryan, Davie Stewart and Ronnie Callam.
We also heard fantastic speeches about: Nancy Wake, Winston Churchill, Jacqueline and Eileen Nearn, Fraser McClusky, Adolf Hitler, Alan Turing, Winston Churchill, Dwight D Eisenhower, Roald Dahl and Oskar Schindler.
Outdoor Learning
Primary 6 took their learning outdoors (in the rain!) last week and were learning how to use and read compasses. We also explored the school garden by going on a sensory hunt.
Maths Week Scotland
We headed outside this week to complete an angle hunt, we looked for different types of angles within nature and had to identify what type we thought they were.
We also created these really cool geometric designs by drawing around a 2p coin, which required a lot of patience!
Curling
A fun morning curling, Primary 6 are very competitive!
World War 2 – Emotion Works
We were learning about The Evacuation of children during World War 2. We mind-mapped how the children would be feeling during this time, then created art work to showcase all of these emotions.
