P5/6 have had an amazing start to term 2!

The pupils have used their prior knowledge and visualisation to explore their new novel study ‘Wilderness War’ by Julia Green. The pupils have also learned to use personification to create atmosphere within their writing.

The pupils have been consolidating their knowledge of estimating and rounding in maths this week. All pupils can confidently round to the nearest 1000, 10,000 and 100,000. They can also apply this knowledge when solving problems that involve estimating.

The pupils enjoyed taking part in a Halloween themed strings lesson this week. All pupils learned to play a spooky song on their classical instrument using their bows.

P5/6 have officially completed their first term!

All of the pupils have worked extremely hard throughout this term. Some pupils have also shared some of their favourite parts about their learning g journey so far.

Literacy

The P5/6 pupils have been focusing on the ‘ee’ phoneme this week. They can confidently identify all phoneme representations for ‘ee’ and can use various active strategies to practise their spelling words.

Also, the pupils are continuing to use various writing techniques to create effective descriptive writing pieces. They can now include adjectives, adverbs, similes and metaphors to add more detail to their writing.

 

Maths

The pupils in P5/6 have been learning to use a new Number Talks strategy called ‘partitioning’ this week. The pupils have been able to use this strategy to add 5-digit numbers, 6-digit numbers and decimal numbers.

Additionally, the pupils have been engaging in several practical activities this week whilst learning how to compare and order decimals.

 

Other Curricular Areas 

The pupils enjoyed using their knowledge of Viking artwork and patterns to create some amazing Viking jewellery pieces this week!

As well as this, the pupils took part in their first strings lesson on Thursday. All pupils will experience learning to play a classical instrument such as violins, violas and cellos throughout this session.
