Weekly Update

This week within our numeracy we had a focus on rounding / identifying tenths and hundredths. We were able to use active resources to create different numbers to round / partition into their value. Whiteboards were used to show the numbers created.

This week we continued our science topic on Forces, considering how an object’s shape helps its ability to move through the water or air. We explored this through creating different shaped paper aeroplanes and finding out which shape worked the best.

Within our literacy this week, we continued reading our novel of Matilda and tried different strategies to work out the meaning of new words.

Weekly Update

In Primary 5  we have started a novel study on Matilda. This week we continued reading the story and summarised one of  the chapters in our own words. Following this we looked at the language in the book used to describe the character of Matilda to give us a better understanding of the character.

In numeracy we are learning about place value, focusing on the value of digits between 1000 and 100,000. This week we used practical materials to support our learning creating our own numbers and identifying their value.

In science we have started learning about forces, with a focus this week on friction. To explore this more we created ramps and used a variety of different materials to test. Comparing how well the different materials worked on the ramp and the friction created.
