Weekly Update

This week in literacy we focused on developing our visualisation skills with our new reading books, creating an image to represent the story and highlighting the key words that helped to build the image.

In PE we continued developing our badminton skills through games. We were able to use all the skills that we had been learning and put them into practice, playing short games with a partner.

This week in numeracy we continued learning about money, focusing on multiplying different amounts. We have been been multiplying pounds and pence by numbers between 1-10.

P5 Burns Poem

Up In The Morning Early – Robert Burns

Cauld blaws the wind frae east to west,
The drift is driving sairly;
Sae loud and shrill’s I hear the blast,
I’m sure it’s winter fairly.

Up in the morning’s no for me,
Up in the morning early;
When a’ the hills are cover’d wi’ snaw,
I’m sure its winter fairly.

The birds sit chittering in the thorn,
A’ day they fare but sparely;
And lang’s the night frae e’en to morn,
I’m sure it’s winter fairly.

Up in the morning’s no for me,
Up in the morning early;
When a’ the hills are cover’d wi’ snaw,
I’m sure its winter fairly.

This week we discussed different materials and the suitability of them for different purposes. The pupils were then set the challenge to design and create a bridge from a selection of different materials, choosing the material they thought would be the most suitable.

In literacy this week we were developing our prior knowledge skills with our new reading books. We looked at the title and the cover to give us clues to make predictions about the book.
