End of Term 3 🐣

It’s been another busy week in P5!

This week we were looking at the different countries that clothes are made in, locating them on a world map & finding out the capital of each country.

We loved getting the chance to put out all of our jotters, for our parents to look through, and to see how hard we’ve been working this year.

We have been hard at work designing our own eggs for the easter egg competition and what a creative bunch P5 are. It’s going to be a tough decision for the judges!

We had our final rugby session with Blair from Cumnock Rugby Club on Wednesday & even got to play a few games.

Weekly Round-up

This week we finished reading our class novel, Charlotte’s Web. We were learning about book reviews & wrote our own reviews to share our thoughts on the book.
We finished the week off by watching the film of Charlotte’s Web, so that we can compare the film to the book. We have already noticed lots of differences and can’t wait to discuss these further.
We had our second rugby session with Blair from Cumnock Rugby Club on Wednesday and are already getting better at passing the ball.
We have also started to practise our chess skills and are really enjoying getting to play against each other, trying to be more tactical.

Weekly Round-up

This week we have been learning all about fractions and identifying them on a number line. We have also been exploring the link between fractions, decimals and percentages.

In literacy we have been learning to put words into alphabetical order, and what to do when two words start with the same letter.

We started learning the rules of chess again, in preparation for the chess championship next term. We had a great afternoon getting to play against everyone in the class. Those who have a good knowledge of all the pieces and rules were very helpful and supportive.

In art we started to explore different brush techniques in painting, and created our own pictures using the one stroke technique.

We started rugby sessions this week with Cumnock Rugby Club as part of our PE sessions.

Weekly Round-up

We are getting very close to finishing our class novel Charlotte’s Web.

This week we were focussing on Main Ideas and we were picking out the main points and themes from the chapter.

In numeracy we have been exploring fractions and have been learning to identify fractions on a number line.

We were learning all about Kandinsky with Mrs Stewart and created our own pieces of artwork.

In RME we were learning all about the different religious festivals that people celebrate.

Today we participated in a live lesson with other East Ayrshire schools all about water pollution & saving the seas. We completed our own experiment to see the impact that pollution has on marine animals.

Weekly Round-up

We’ve had another busy week in P5. On Monday we had Mrs Stewart and we were learning all about tessellation and created some of our own tessellation pictures.

We read some more of our novel study and we were talking about times when we have been given extra responsibility and allowed to do something ourselves for the first time.

On Wednesday we made our own pancakes. We were learning about the importance of good hygiene when preparing food, how to weigh & measure ingredients and how to safely use the cooker.

We have been looking for the signs of spring appearing now that we are in March and created our own spring pictures. We also had Discovery Dens on Wednesday and got the chance try a new activity.

We took part in a World Book Day quiz & had great fun trying to guess the different characters.

Weekly Round-up

This week we have been learning all about fractions. We created our own fraction walls and were learning to identify what fraction of a shape has been shaded. We have also been learning about right angles as degrees of turns.

In grammar we were focussing on our sentences and what a sentence should have. We have also been writing more of our narrative stories and they are coming on brilliantly. We spent time listening to each others stories and giving feedback using our ‘Tickled Pink’ and ‘Green for Growth’ approach.

We have been continuing to develop our fitness skills in PE, focussing on our running and circuits. We also got the chance to make fruit kebabs with Miss Kay as part of our health and wellbeing work.

Weekly Round-up

This week we continued to work on our spelling rules and patterns. We read some more of our Charlotte’s Web book study and this week we focussed on our inference skills and being able to pick out clues from the text, to help us understand what the author was meaning.

In RME we have been exploring Christianity and this week we explored the different features of a church. We created our own stained glass windows and churches.

For PE this week we have been working on our fitness skills and have been walking/jogging for 10 minutes and then completing some circuits. We are hoping to be able to jog nonstop for 10 minutes  by the end of our block.

We were also learning about similarities and differences, as well as discrimination.

Weekly Round-up

This week we have been learning all about the advantages and disadvantages for different materials, looking at natural and synthetic materials and how these are used for different purposes.

We have been learning about different angles in maths and can correctly identify an acute, right, obtuse and straight angle.

On Wednesday we had Discovery Dens and everyone got to participate in a different activity.

In literacy we have been continuing to write our own narrative stories and this week we focussed on the build up and problem.

We have also been learning to code and remix our own music by exploring the Music Lab: Jam sessions.

Weekly Update

We’ve had another busy week in P5. This week we have been learning to divide with remainders. We have been continuing to work on our multiplication masters and it has been great to sign off so many times tables. Keep practising – especially the 6, 7 and 8 x table. We were also learning about different types of angles and we used the K’nex to make some of our own angles.

In literacy we started to write our own narrative stories. This week we focussed on writing our introduction where we find out about the characters and the setting for our stories.

We also had a visit from some of the local recycling team, who taught us about our recycling trolley system and what things should be put into each box.

Weekly Round-up

This week we have been working hard on our division skills, and have been learning to divide with remainders. We continue to consolidate our times tables facts and use this knowledge to support our division work.

We have been learning about narrative stories in writing and this week we started to plan our own stories, we have some fantastic ideas and can’t wait to read them when they are finished.

We have been learning about different religious beliefs that people may have and this week we have been exploring Christianity.

We were also learning how to code our own games in ICT.

This week we also said goodbye to our friend Jenna, as she prepares for her move. We will really miss her & wish her all the best. Good luck!
