NUMERACY & MATHS

Time – 18.4.19

Since the April holidays we have had a learning focus on time. Pupils have all been making good progress from their individual starting point. Previous time spent learning fractions, 1/4 turns clockwise/anti-clockwise and  the x5 table helps understanding of time language. On Thursday afternoon we took our time learning outdoors. Pupils worked in partners/trios to create analogue time and show digital times to match.

CLASS NEWS

16.7.19 – Homework

Thought I would try posting homework updates here.

Spelling remains as before (list of phonemes and common words practised with activity choice from spelling menu).

Reading – Groups have home readers or novels to read. Complete 2-3 activities per book. Books will be sent home Friday – Friday as before. Children may partake in additional reading at any point in the week with books I send home so it would be helpful to have books kept in school bags.

Maths – Pupil choice is to have a Maths game home to work on personal targets. Please return these on a Friday so the children can swap.

Any queries, just ask!! Thank you.

16.5.19 – Shoeboxes

Please bring in shoeboxes for Monday 20th May which we will use to design a home as part of topic and learning about needs and wants.

20. 3. 19 – Hello everybody!

Welcome to our Primary 4a Blog where we will post and share updates on our learning and activities taking place!!

We have been learning about ‘Climates’ and have been creating information powerpoints, climate zone collages and finger puppets (with clothing designed for the climate). Next we will create short videos where the puppets will explain about polar, tropical and temperate climates.

Thank you to everyone who has offered to join us in our Community walks. Please return any consent forms for your child to accompany us on our walk. We will be exploring the landscape and comparing natural and man-made features.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Skiing – 14.5.19

We enjoyed playing games during our last week skiing. Check out photos of our tubing session. Thank you to Mrs Stuart for joining us the last few weeks (and well done for learning to ski alongside us)!

Massage in Schools – 1.5.19

Primary 6 & 7 shared their expertise with us as we integrate the Massage in Schools programme. Most of us engaged well and I’m sure lots of people at home will be able to benefit from our new skills!! Massage has been proven to help relaxation and concentration. In class we also put on mindfulness music and have low lighting.

The first important rule of massage is asking someone if they want a massage. Nobody is ever made to take part but hopefully with time watching, self-massage and practice at home, everyone can feel more comfortable and benefit from relaxation.

Skiing Lessons – 16.4.19

A fun time was had by all at the dry ski slope today. Every week we have the opportunity to do tubing and have ski lessons. Everyone did fantastic on their first week!!

Outdoor Learning – 19.4.19

What a fun afternoon we had. We were very lucky to meet the baby lambs (Cloud and Marshmallow) who visited the nursery. One activity we enjoy outdoors is “Go Find” where pupils need to find a natural item fitting the description on their card.

Skiing Lessons – 23.4.19

We had a super lesson at skiing today! Excellent effort by all! We moved further up the hill and learned to stop.

Skiing – 30.4.19

Many of us are now skiing from the top of the training slope. Also feeling impressed with ourselves at going up the tow!

Stewarton Museum Visit- 15.5.19

We have had an interesting and very enjoyable visit to the Stewarton Museum. The volunteers provided excellent activities and we were engrossed in the information and artefacts. We are very grateful to them for giving their time. Thanks to our helpers too!

14.5.18 – Check our our AMAZING models of features in Stewarton! So impressed with the quality of the models and facts. Our models have been on display in the assembly hall and we shared our learning with Miss Speirs who also thinks everyone has done a fantastic job!

Community Topic – Bonnet Guild Visit – 3.5.19

We were very fortunate to have two Bonnet Guild members visit us. They told us all about the history and aims of the Bonnet Guild. Engaging with and learning from community groups will help us achieve our Heritage Heroes award.  We are very grateful for their visit and for all they do to make Stewarton a fun place to live in. Throughout the talk and discussions we took notes and will use our information to write reports on the Bonnet Guild.

STEM with French Visitors – 24.4.19

We have been lucky to have French children visit us and spend the day at a Lainshaw School today. They are staying with local families (including mine) to experience Scottish life and culture. When they were with us this afternoon we undertook a STEM challenge – The Egg Zip Line. Once our eggs were safety wrapped up, we changed the “hanger” material as the term variable was introduced.

Community Walks – 27.3.19

Primary 4 went local walks to find interesting man-made features. We also looked at dates on buildings and compared maps from 1896, 1938 and 2019 (Google maps) to show how Stewarton has changed over the years.
