Weekly Update

Good afternoon, this week we were leaning volume. We calculated the volume using cubic centimetres. We checked using cubes and some of us used the formula V = l x b x h.

On Tuesday we did a litter pick around some of Sorn. We tidied up behind the village hall and then down towards the entrance to the village. We plan to continue this next week with the whole school. We took part in a live lesson and learned how to write a poem about the environment and how to look after it. Have a look at some of our poems.

Weekly Update

In Primary 4-7, we have been learning to estimate the weight of objects. We used scales to check how accurate our estimations were.

On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day. In the morning, we took part in a Footy Booky quiz with lots us of scoring high in the two rounds. Then we took part in a BBC Live Lesson where we finished with thousands of schools all reading simultaneously for 60 seconds. During that time we read our own choice of fiction, non-fiction or comics.

Then we took part in Mrs Mackay’s great book hunt. We each had to read clues to help find the title of the next book. Glen Logan were the scavenger hunt champions and also received bonus points for the best teamwork.

Weekly Update

What a busy week we have had.

In maths, we’ve been practising our addition strategies and Mrs Connell was really pleased with our jotter layout.
In literacy, we have been learning how to use speech marks which we are going to use in our imaginative writing.

We have been learning how to use atlases to find different information. Mrs Connell challenged us to an atlas scavenger hunt, looking for rivers, mountains and capital cities.

Primary 7 went for their first visit to the Robert Burns Academy. Primary 6/7 attended a zoom conference on World Children’s Day to discuss climate change. Today, the whole school made lanterns for Make Cathrine Sparkle… phew!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Jake and Jackson’s Post

The ceilidh was super fun we were having the best night of our lives.

In maths we have been learning more addition strategies and some subtraction strategies.

We were learning fact triangles.

In literacy we have been learning new phonemes and also some descriptive character writing about the Night Zoo. We had to write our own character description. We used core targets, similes, adjectives, adverbs and paragraphs.

Yesterday we went on a fun trip to the Titanic Exhibition. We met members of the crew and saw the hull, the funnel and the pulley from the ship. One woman was playing cards when disaster struck and the cards were on display. Women and children got on the lifeboats first. When it was sinking the weight of the water in the ship broke it in half. We had an excellent day and learned lots of facts about the Titanic.

Happy Pirate Day 🏴‍☠️

Happy Talk like a Pirate Day! Arrrr… 🏴‍☠️
Look at our lovely crew of shipmates.
Here’s this week’s highlights!

Place value perfection! This week everyone completed their place value assessments and did absolutely amazing, showing Mrs Connell what they’d learned. A very proud teacher indeed.

We learned about synonyms and used a thesaurus to find words. Boiling, warm, burning and roasting are so much better than hot. Prehistoric and ancient are so much better than old.

On Tuesday, we learned about discrimination. Mrs Connell asked us to put post its on to different people. They said things like ‘I want to go university’ but we found it hard when we didn’t know the people. We learned that’s what discrimination is.

Have a lovely long weekend and see you all Tuesday.
