Week 3!

This week our mental maths strategy was the grid method. This strategy helps us to solve harder multiplication calculations. Please have a look below at some of our amazing work using this strategy.

We continued looking at Edinburgh Castle for our Scottish Landmarks topic. We worked in pairs/small groups to complete a reading comprehension activity that told us all about Edinburgh Castle.  Everyone was really interested in the history of Edinburgh Castle and asked great questions during the lesson.

We also started our new Health and Wellbeing topic, Food and Health, and discussed what good table manners are and what they look like. We then worked in small groups to design posters to display in the classroom as a reminder.

Well done for all the hard work this week P4/5!

Week 2!

P4/5 have continued reading their new class novel, ‘Danny the Champion of the World’, and have completed a summarising activity as well as a main ideas activity on the first few chapters.  Everyone seems to be enjoying the story so far!

This week for mental maths we focussed on a new strategy which is called repeated addition. This strategy links multiplication to addition. Everyone done really well using this new way of thinking!

For numeracy we have been focussing on division; some groups using the formal written method, some groups using multiplication squares and others using concrete materials to help support them.

We have also spent some time learning our new poems and starting our new topic which is Scottish Landmarks. We have started looking at Edinburgh Castle and will continue with this next week.

Our First Week Back of School in 2024!

This week P4/5 have been engaging in various ‘Getting to know you’ lessons and activities with Miss Paton to begin building positive relationships.

We also started our new book study, ‘Danny the Champion of the World’, and we got to design our own front covers.

We completed some mental maths calculations and engaged with different activities that focused on our times tables.

What a busy first week back at school for P4/5!
