Open Morning

It was great to see so many adults join us for our open morning on Thursday.  P4/5 really enjoyed showing off our new classroom and highlighting some of the ways we use ICT in our classroom.

Have a look at a few snaps from the morning.

17/02/23

It has been a short but exciting week for us in P4/5.

We began to learn about various instruments from the ‘string family’ and even got to select  an instrument for ourselves that we will learn to play over the coming weeks and months.

We chose a variety of string instruments including viola, cello, violins and a double bass!

We learned about the parts of each instruments, how to hold them correctly and the rest positions. Check us out!

We also got to work creating close – up portraits of ‘The Trunchbull’. We used the visual elements of line and talked lots about expression to create these gruesome portraits of the villain from our novel.  Have a look at how they turned out.

🍎 ✏️

Yesterday we had our new board installed in our classroom. We have put it to good use already. Check out some of the super strategies used to solve this calculation.

We continued working on our study of ‘Matilda’ and used the visualisation strategy to create timelines of the events in chapter 4.

We also took part in a lesson on how to draw characters in the style of illustrator Quinton Blake. We put our learning to good use and created some wonderful character drawings of Matilda.

Coral then made us a life size Matilda to display on our wall. After drawing, Coral then painted her artwork with some help from Brooke and Lucie. We love it and think it looks lovely on our Literacy wall. 🎨 💓

On the move!

It has been a busy time for P4/5 as we moved classroom.

We have now settled into our new downstairs classroom and really love it! Lots of us think it feels a lot bigger.

We have been thoroughly enjoying the start of our ‘Matilda  book study.

This week, we looked at the ‘Author’s Use of Language’ and picked out key words and phrases that showed how Mr and Mrs Wormwood felt about their daughter.

We also linked our learning to the new ‘Matilda: The Musical’ and managed to analyse the lyrics of the song ‘Naughty’.  Miss McLean was really impressed with our understanding.

We have also been continuing to work on Multiplication using ‘The Grid Method ‘, ‘Partial Products‘ and ‘Repeated Addition’.

We will now begin looking at using the ‘Formal Method’.

We are also trying really hard to develop our recall of the times tables. This will help speed up our calculations. We have been playing lots of games to help with this!

Finally, check out our lovely ‘Charles Rennie Macintosh’ inspired artwork.

HELLO 2023 🎊

We have had a fantastic first week back after the new year.
We started the week off by creating some lovely artwork inspired by the four seasons. We used our art to make calendars that will be very useful to keep track of important dates in the year. 😊

We also began to deepen our understanding of multiplication. We are learning lots of different strategies for multiplying and are growing more confident when demonstrating them to others.

We have also been learning about multiplying by 10,100 and 1000. We were able to recognise the pattern which helped speed up our calculations.

🔔 We used the ICT suite to research Alexander Graham Bell and were amazed at how communication technology has evolved. We learned about how people kept in touch in the past and discussed ways in which technology might evolve in the future. 🔔

📞 We then got a change to make some ‘Paper Cup Walkie Talkies’ and tested the idea that sound travels using vibrations. It was really interesting. 📞

Merry Christmas

The last couple of weeks have been very busy as we all got into the Christmas spirit. We have been kept very busy with our school pantomime, a trip to the cinema, Christmas parties, Christmas crafts and more!

Have a look at some of the pictures we managed to snap of our last week.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous New Year 🎊 xx

Weekly update

This week we have been busy getting in lots of practise for our Christmas performance ‘Panto Pandemonium’.

We have been singing and dancing our socks off and can’t wait for you all to see our show.

In class, we have been continuing to work on our narrative writing. We have already written the beginning of our story and are now working on an interesting dilemma or problem for our characters to solve.
We have had the chance to read our writing (so far) to other classes in the school and have had lots of lovely feedback!

We have also been learning to create PowerPoint presentations. We know how to change the text size and font, add images, transitions and sounds. We are working together to create PowerPoint about our chosen subjects and can’t wait to present them to the rest of the class.

Happy Friday!

This week was another busy one for Primary 4/5.

This week was ‘Anti-Bullying’ week and on Monday we created some lovely Throw Kindness Like Confetti artwork. We started with a perspective drawing of our hands and then used other materials to create a confetti collage. Have a look!

On Tuesday we developed our understanding of our school value ‘Fairness’.  We learned about how fair doesn’t always mean everyone gets the same. We could understand the difference between equality and equity and made some lovely ‘Fairness’ acrostic poems to display in our corridor.

Wednesday was our Literacy open morning. We had a great morning showing off some of the things we get up to in our class. We upgraded our fries, took part in some descriptive writing, completed the literacy starters, tried out some of our Fantastic Mr Fox task maps and worked on some spelling strategies!

On Thursday we were joined by the rest of Primary 5 for a Superman themed day! We read a description of the setting and made models based on the scene. It was a great day and we developed lots of skills.

Today we celebrated Children in Need by dressing down and taking part in a Pudsey Bear drawing tutorial. They turned out brilliantly!

P4/5 Big Talk Homework

Title:  My Favourite Film or Book

You have been given a project to prepare and present a short 5 minute talk about your favourite film or book.  The presentation should be as detailed as possible and should include information about the author, genre, characters, setting and plot.  You could also include your favourite parts and the reasons why you like them, or ways you think the author or director could have made them even better. You could also use other ideas to enhance your talk e.g. PowerPoint (emailed to Miss McLean or on a pen-drive), drawings, diagrams or items from home.

You should practise your talk at home as often as possible and use a timer to help. You may want to use notes or prompt cards to help you stay on track.

All talks will be assessed using the school’s Talking & Listening criteria, which is also available on Glow.

Talks should be ready to present the week beginning Monday 21st November.

On Monday we were so excited to celebrate Halloween by joining up for some structured activities with P4-7. We enjoyed doing art, games and enjoying some wee treats!

Some other highlights included our music session which we really enjoyed. We used glow sticks as beaters and worked on the rhythm of ‘Spooky Scary Skeletons’.

We also finished working on our descriptive writing pieces and we are really proud of our finished pieces. (These pieces were sent home so you can have a look at our wonderful work.)

We continued to develop our knowledge of the ‘Formal Method’ – this time to solve subtraction calculations.

We finished up the week by creating some Bonfire Night inspired artwork. We used a combination of chalk and oil pastels to create different effects. This was challenging at times but we developed lots of new skills!

Take a look at some pictures from our week 🙂
