It has been a busy time for P4/5 as we moved classroom.

We have now settled into our new downstairs classroom and really love it! Lots of us think it feels a lot bigger.

We have been thoroughly enjoying the start of our ‘Matilda‘  book study.

This week, we looked at the ‘Author’s Use of Language’ and picked out key words and phrases that showed how Mr and Mrs Wormwood felt about their daughter.

We also linked our learning to the new ‘Matilda: The Musical’ and managed to analyse the lyrics of the song ‘Naughty’.  Miss McLean was really impressed with our understanding.

 

We have also been continuing to work on Multiplication using ‘The Grid Method ‘, ‘Partial Products‘ and ‘Repeated Addition’. 

We will now begin looking at using the ‘Formal Method’.

 

We are also trying really hard to develop our recall of the times tables. This will help speed up our calculations. We have been playing lots of games to help with this!

We have had a fantastic first week back after the new year.
We started the week off by creating some lovely artwork inspired by the four seasons. We used our art to make calendars that will be very useful to keep track of important dates in the year. 😊

We also began to deepen our understanding of multiplication. We are learning lots of different strategies for multiplying and are growing more confident when demonstrating them to others.

We have also been learning about multiplying by 10,100 and 1000. We were able to recognise the pattern which helped speed up our calculations.

 🔔 We used the ICT suite to research Alexander Graham Bell and were amazed at how communication technology has evolved. We learned about how people kept in touch in the past and discussed ways in which technology might evolve in the future. 🔔

📞 We then got a change to make some ‘Paper Cup Walkie Talkies’ and tested the idea that sound travels using vibrations. It was really interesting. 📞
