Homework Week 2

Pupils should continue to work on their class talks ready to present them to the class next week. Please see previous homework post for details.

The focus for homework this week is spelling common and tricky words. Pupils have been given a spelling homework grid and spelling list to work on at home this week (see below). Please choose some of the activities on the grid to practise your spelling words.

Homework should be returned by Monday 12th May.

Weekly Round-Up

This week in Primary 4 we have been learning to use and handle money up to £10 in maths.

In literacy we have started our new book study ‘The Hundred Mile an Hour Dog’ by Jeremy Strong. We have been continuing to work on improving our writing by using conjunctions. Allan and Carter both chose to write about World War II during free writing today and created some super pieces of work.

We also had Discovery Dens again on Wednesday afternoon, where we got to take part in lots of different activities. Mrs McKenna’s group were learning to draw some spring animals.

We went for a class walk to the park this week. The last few times we have visited the park there has been lots of rubbish, so we took some litter pickers and bin bags to collect any rubbish that was lying about. Calli was a great help at collecting rubbish and we left the park looking much cleaner than when we arrived!

Have a great long weekend!

Homework Week 1

Pupils have been given a class talk homework project for the first week of our homework block this term. Pupils will have two weeks to prepare their talks before presenting them to the class. Please see details below.

P4 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: My Favourite Film or Book

You have been given a project to prepare and present a short 5 minute talk about your favourite film or book.  The presentation should be as detailed as possible and should include information about the genre, characters, setting and plot.  You could also include your favourite parts and the reasons why you like them, or ways you think the author or director could have made them even better. You could also use other ideas to enhance your talk e.g. PowerPoint (sent by e-mail or saved on a pen-drive), drawings, diagrams or items from home.

You should practise your talk at home as often as possible and use a timer to help. You may want to use notes or prompt cards to help you stay on track.

All talks will be assessed using the school’s Talking & Listening criteria, which is also available on Glow.

Talks should be ready to be present the week beginning Monday 12th May.

Further details will be posted on the class blog as to which day pupils will be presenting their talk.

If you have any questions please email me at: laura.mckenna@eastayrshire.org.uk

I look forward to hearing your talks.

First Week of Term 4

It has been a busy start to the final term of Primary 4!

We have been finishing our work on measure in maths this week and have been learning how to measure volume. Next week we will be starting a new topic and we will be learning about money.

Well done to Ayla and Riley who have both completed their times table passports this week. Great work!

In literacy we have been continuing to work on using conjunctions in our writing. We also visited the school library and got to choose a new book.

We went for a lovely walk to the river on Wednesday afternoon and had lots of fun building sandcastles.

It’s that time of year again when we have been creating artwork for the ‘Catrine Show’. The theme this year is ‘On the Farm’.

Just a wee reminder that pupils should bring their P.E. kit bag back into school if they haven’t already done so. Pupils will need full kit (shorts or leggings and gym shoes) to take part in P.E. next week.

Last Week of Term 3

It’s hard to believe that today is the last day of term 3!

Logan R. and Calli have been working so hard to learn their times tables and have both completed their times table passports this week. Great work!

Calli also achieved a medal at gymnastics this week and proudly brought it into class to show us all.

The boys and girls came up with some great imaginative ideas when decorating their eggs for the Easter egg competition this week.

Well done to Calli who was chosen as the P4 winner for her super egg decorated as a chick.

Braxton was the winner of a Ruby Reward ticket today and chose Riley to sit with him at the Ruby Reward table. Well done Braxton!

Have a great Easter holiday!

We have been learning about the festival of Mardi Gras in French and made our own carnival masks.

We have been continuing to learn how to play rugby with Blair from Cumnock Rugby Club.

Today is Miss Black and Miss Kerr’s last day of their placement in our class. We would like to thank them for all their help and support over the last 8 weeks and wish them all the best for the future.
