We have continued to develop our printing techniques in Art & Design. This week we got to try out a different method.

We first carved our designs onto Styrofoam sheets, being careful to apply the right amount of pressure.

Secondly, we poured a special printing ink into our trays.

We then coated our rollers in the ink, making sure to coat them thoroughly.

Next, we used the roller to spread the ink onto the Styrofoam design.

After that, we pressed our paper onto our design. We used our hands to apply pressure.

Finally, we lifted up the paper slowly to reveal our designs!

Some of our designs turned out clearer than others and we were able to discuss why this might have happened and discovered the way the ink was applied, pressure when rolling and even how sharp our pencil was during the carving process all had an impact on our final print. We learned so much about the printing process!

Here are some other snaps from our week, taken by Miss Kay when we were making and enjoying our fruit kebabs!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today in P3 we celebrated Valentine’s day by taking part in a morning ‘code cracker’ numeracy challenge. We worked in mixed pairs to use our knowledge of the four operations to crack some codes. We found some of the calculations a challenge and worked excellently in our pairs to solve them.

We then peer assessed our work using our ‘tickled pink’ and ‘green for growth‘ system.

At home, ask us about how we use  ‘tickled pink’ and ‘green for growth’ to progress our learning.

Check out some snaps from this week’s ‘printmaking’ lesson. We built upon our technique from last week and used some natural materials to create mono prints.

We used the detailed print of leaves to create wonderful butterfly artwork. We think they look amazing and can’t wait to share the finished result.
