Class Talk – When I grow up, I would like to be……

P2/3 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: When I grow up, I would like to be……

Pupils have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk about what they would like to be when they grow up. Some ideas to include in their talk might be:

  • What job would they like to do when they are older?
  • Why they would like this job?
  • What skills or equipment they might need for the job?
  • A picture/drawing/poster about their chosen job

The talk should be ready to be presented the week beginning Monday 20th May. More details will be given shortly (please check Blog) about which day that week your child will be giving their talk.

Children should practise their talk at home in order to be able to fluently talk to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.

I look forward to hearing what you would like to be.

People Who Help Us

This week we had a very special visit from PC Aitken who is the campus police officer at Robert Burns Academy.

PC Aitken came  to tell us all about her job and the different ways in which the police help us.

We got to ask her lots of questions about her job and even got to try on her uniform!

Here’s what the pupils had to say about the visit:

PC Aitken is a very nice person – Charlotte

I liked trying on her equipment – Matthew

I liked when Matthew got handcuffed – Alfie

I liked when PC Aitken got the spray out – Ava D.

I liked when we got to ask the questions – Allan

I liked it when she tied my legs up – Lyle

I am really sad because I didn’t get to see her – Poppy

I liked when she showed us what she wears – Quinn

I liked the colours of her uniform – Harper

I liked her putting me in straps – Shaun

I liked getting to see her – Rhys

I liked when she put on the PowerPoint – Ellie

I liked it when she put straps on Lyle – Harry

It was fun! – Ava G.

We really appreciated PC Aitken taking time out of her busy day to come and speak to us.

We have started to learn about the skeleton as part of our ‘My Body’ topic.

We had lots of fun at our John Muir Outdoor Learning day on Wednesday. It was lovely to see so many family members join our children and take part in all the different activities.

Well done to Ava D. who was the winner of a Ruby Reward ticket and chose Layla to sit with her at the Ruby Reward table today.

We were so excited to get to practise our gymnastics skills on all of the apparatus in the gym hall this week. We even got to use the climbing bars and the ropes!

We had lots of fun at the park on Wednesday afternoon.

Before the holidays we entered the ‘If you were an engineer’ Leaders Award Competition organised by the STEM committee group. This week we found out that Shaun has won the competition for his stage and will be heading to a ceremony at Prestwick Airport next month.

Congratulations Shaun, what a fantastic achievement!

Well done to Lyle who was the winner of a Ruby Reward ticket and chose Allan to sit with him at the Ruby Reward table.

Last week of term 3

It’s hard to believe that today is the last day of term 3!

The boys and girls came up with some great imaginative ideas when decorating their eggs for the Easter egg competition this afternoon.

Well done to Matthew who was chosen as the P2 winner for his super egg which he decorated as the Gruffalo.

Charlotte was the winner of a Ruby Reward ticket today and chose Ava G. to sit with her at the Ruby Reward table. Well done Charlotte!

We had an Easter egg hunt in the playground this afternoon and also said goodbye to Miss Love who finished her placement with us today. We are going to miss her after the holidays!

Have a lovely Easter holiday!

Weekly Round-Up

In maths this week we have been learning about the link between multiplication and division.

In literacy, the P3’s have been consolidating the soft c sound and the P2’s have been learning the ‘i_e’ sound as in time.

In gymnastic this week we have been learning how to do a log, egg and teddy bear roll. We need lots of practise at teddy bear rolls as they are really tricky!

We have been learning about how important it is to wash our hands properly. Miss Love did a fun experiment with us to show us how soap breaks down germs.

We have all been engineers and have entered the ‘If you were and engineer’ Leaders Award Competition organised by the STEM committee group. We had to come up with a problem and then design an invention to help with this problem. We also had to write a letter to engineers to persuade them to build our invention. We worked so hard on our entries!

We have been learning some new French vocabulary with Miss Love. We have been learning to say how old we are and to say where we live in French.

Lyle was chosen by Blair in Primary 1 to sit at the Ruby Reward table today.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Have a great weekend!

World Book Day

Primary 2/3 had fun celebrating World Book Day yesterday.

The Reading Leadership committee group planned lots of activities for us to do during the day. We brought in a favourite book from home and talked about the difference  between fiction and non-fiction books. We then had some time to look at each other’s books and to  ‘Drop Everything and Read’ in class.

We also made some bookmarks, played a reading guessing game and enjoyed taking part in a book themed treasure hunt.

We had a special visit from Miss Brown who came to read us the story ‘The Peter Rabbit Club’. We finished the day by getting a lovely new book to take home.
