It has been a busy first week of term in Primary 2/3!

This week we have been learning about the ‘wh’ sound and writing Hallowe’en sensory poems in literacy. We have been learning about symmetry in maths and went for a walk to look for examples of symmetry in our environment.

We have decorated the classroom for Hallowe’en on Monday, we can’t wait for a fun filled day of activities!

It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of term 1 already!

This week Primary 2/3 have been learning about odd and even numbers in numeracy and the ‘ng’ sound in literacy.

It was really hard but we managed to stay quiet for a whole 30 minutes during our Harvest Hush-In on Wednesday afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who made it along to parents’ night on Wednesday, it was so lovely to see you all and speak to you in person.

It has been a very exciting week as we have watched three of our chrysalides turn into butterflies! We fed them some oranges and apples when they emerged and set them free this afternoon. It has been fantastic to watch the process of them growing from tiny caterpillars into beautiful butterflies.

Thank you to Mykayla who brought in an amazing butterfly collection (and scorpion) from home to show the class. We loved looking at all the different shapes and colours of the butterflies.

Well done to Layla who won a trophy and a medal at a dancing competition at the weekend, what an achievement!

We finished off the term with a class party this afternoon for achieving 1000 points on Class Dojo, well done Primary 2/3!

This week Primary 2/3 have been revising the ‘th’ sound in literacy and have written some super book reviews on ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ book.

In numeracy we have been continuing to work on 2D shape and have been learning about numbers and  words to 20.

We have been learning about the different parts of a caterpillar as part of our ‘Minibeasts’ topic and have moved our chrysalides into their new habitat. We hope that they emerge as beautiful butterflies soon!

We didn’t manage to get out for a walk on Wednesday due to the weather, however we had lots of fun keeping fit in the classroom with Joe Wicks!

It’s hard to believe that next week is our last week of term 1, it’s flown in!!!

Our caterpillars have now become chrysalides! In the next few days we will move them into their new habitat and look forward to watching them transform into beautiful butterflies.

Primary 2 have been learning about 2D shapes for Maths Week Scotland.

It was so nice to finally be allowed to welcome families back into the classroom for our open morning on Wednesday. Thank you to those of you that managed to make it along, I hope you enjoyed getting the chance to see the learning taking place in Primary 2/3.

We went for our first class walk on Wednesday afternoon and we enjoyed hunting for shapes. We found lots of different shapes around the village.

We also had fun hunting for shapes in the playground, practising our numbers and playing maths games outdoors when the sun was shining on Thursday.

Today we used 2D shapes to create some lovely art work.

It has been a very busy week of learning in Primary 2/3.

P2/3 will be going for a walk around Catrine tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday 28th September) during their PE time, weather permitting.  Please ensure your child comes to school wearing suitable footwear and a jacket to go on the walk.

This week is Maths Week Scotland and all pupils have been issued with a maths toolkit that can be used to complete numeracy homework activities. The toolkit includes a numeracy scrapbook, number lines, 100 square, whiteboard, ruler and a pencil case full of materials. The toolkit can be kept at home to complete activities and does not need to be brought back into school.

Pupils have been given a ‘Looking for shapes at home’ challenge which has been added to their numeracy scrapbook and involves looking for 2D shapes around the house. Please click on the link below to view the activity:

Primary 2/3 have been learning about ‘Minibeasts’ this term and had a very special delivery of caterpillars this week! There are 5 caterpillars in total, each measuring about 2cm in length at the moment. The boys and girls are looking forward to taking care of them and watching them transform into beautiful butterflies.

It has been another busy week in Primary 2/3! We can’t wait  to start sharing photographs of what we get up to in our class (once we have permission).

This week we have been busy in literacy writing about ‘The best part of me’, learning about the 100 square in numeracy, creating fantastic art work and starting our ‘Minibeasts’ topic. We had lots of fun hunting for minibeasts in our school grounds and learning about their habitats.

Our PE days in P2/3 will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Tuesday is indoor PE day:  Please make sure your child has indoor gym shoes and shorts (labelled).  These can be kept in school in a labelled bag.

Thursday is walking day:  Please make sure your child is wearing suitable clothes for walking around the village (footwear, jacket etc).
