Class Talk Homework Project

P2/3 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: My Hero

Twice a year, pupils are asked to present a talk to their class. This term, Primary 2/3 have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk about their hero. Pupils should think of a real-life person, (not a superhero character) that they admire and consider to be their hero.

Pupils could talk about:

  • Who their hero is. Are they famous? Are they good at sport? Are they brave? Are they part of their family and they look up to them?
  • An explanation as to why this person is their hero.
  •  A drawing or photograph of their hero.

Pupils have been given a worksheet that they can complete at home as a prompt to help them with their talk. Please click on the link below to view the worksheet:

My Hero

Pupils can decide how they would like to present their talk i.e. poster, photographs, bringing in items from home etc.

Children should practise their talk at home in order to be able to fluently talk to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.

Talks should be ready to be heard for Monday 22nd May.

Further details will be posted on the class blog as to which day pupils will be presenting their talk.

I look forward to hearing all of your talks.

Weekly Round-Up

We have been doing lots of super learning in Primary 2/3 this week.

We have been learning the ‘o-e’ sound in literacy. We have continued to work on writing sentences and have been learning to write book reviews. In numeracy we have been learning to multiply by 10.

We had lots of fun trying out the fantastic new gymnastics equipment with Mrs McCaig on Tuesday afternoon.

We had lots of fun at the park on Wednesday afternoon.

We have been discussing our school value ‘community’ and have started to learn about ‘Healthy Eating’, which is our topic for this term. We will also be learning about the human body.

We have also had a wee visitor at our fire door this week. An oyster catcher keeps coming up and chapping the window with its beak to say hello!

Have a great long weekend everyone!

First week of term 4

The sun has been shining for our first week of term 4!

This week we have been learning the ‘i-e’ split diagraph and practising writing sentences in literacy. We have been learning how to multiply by 5 in numeracy and had fun looking for arrays in the playground. We have also been creating some lovely artwork for the Catrine Show.

We enjoyed some guided meditation in class on Tuesday afternoon and went for a walk to the park on Wednesday.

Riley was the winner of the Golden Ticket today and chose Oscar to sit with him at the Golden Table for lunch. Calli also got to sit at the Golden Table as Demi won a Golden Ticket this week and chose Calli to sit with her.

Have a great weekend!

End of term 3

The boys and girls came up with some great imaginative ideas when decorating their eggs for the Easter egg competition.

Ayla was the P2 winner of the egg decorating competition. Well done!

We had an Easter egg hunt outside in the playground this morning. We got to eat our eggs at playtime which was a special treat!

Logan R. was the winner of the Golden Ticket today and chose Rhys to sit with him at the Golden Table for lunch. Well done Logan!

Have a lovely Easter holiday!

Numeracy Homework – Easter egg symmetry

Easter is just around the corner, so pupils have been given an ‘Easter egg symmetry’ challenge which has been added to their numeracy scrapbook this week. This challenge involves making symmetrical patterns.  Pupils can complete the task on the challenge sheet or they can draw their own symmetrical eggs in their jotter. Please click on the link below to view the activity:

Numeracy scrapbooks should be returned by Monday 27th March.

This will be the last numeracy homework challenge before we finish for the Easter holiday.

British Science Week

Primary 2/3 have been doing lots of fun activities in class this week to celebrate British Science Week.

We really enjoyed working in groups to do the ‘Skittles Experiment’. We had to place some skittles around the edge of a plate, add some warm water and then watch to see what happened. The skittles made a rainbow effect when the coloured coating on the skittles dissolved. It was amazing!

We had lots of fun using cubes to copy patterns created by the STEM committee group. Look at these super, long patterns we made. Calli even made one which was taller than Mrs McKenna!

We got the chance to experiment with a plasma ball. We loved touching the ball and watching the coloured bolts of light follow our every move. It was fascinating!

We have also been keeping busy with our literacy and numeracy work in the class. We have been learning some new strategies for multiplying and have been working really hard on our reading this week.
