First week in our new classroom!

Primary 2/3 have had a great first week in their new classroom and are settling well into their new routines.

Here are a few of the children’s thoughts on our new classroom:

“It is so big and it’s nice.” Callum

“I love it!” Logan R.

“I like all the toys.” Ivy

“It’s the best class I’ve ever had.” Charlotte

“I like the detail of it.” Adam

We have  a lovely book corner, a technology area, working areas for literacy and numeracy and lots of space for our blocks and loose parts.

This week we have been learning all about Robert Burns. We were lucky to have a visit from the Hopscotch Theatre Co. this afternoon who performed the show ‘Burns Last Supper’ for us. It was a great performance!

We have been working really hard in our amazing new learning space.

We learned how to draw a Scottish thistle. Mrs McKenna was so impressed with our artwork!

Please continue to practise Scots poems at home. On Wednesday we will be choosing the pupils who will go on to perform their poem in front of a panel judges.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs McKenna

Weekly Round-Up

Primary 2/3 have been working really hard with Mrs Smith this week while Mrs McKenna has been setting up our new classroom. We have been learning the ‘ea’ sound in literacy, reading the story ‘Harris the Hero’, doing lots of revision in numeracy and learning all about Scotland.

We were very lucky to visit the ECC on Tuesday afternoon to see their amazing new space. It looks absolutely fantastic!

We are looking forward to moving into our new classroom on Tuesday!

Have a great weekend.

Scots Poems

As part of our Scotland topic all classes are learning a Scots poem. Paper copies of the poems have been given to all pupils to learn at home and are also shown below. The Primary 2 poem is Twa-Leggit Mice by J K Annand.

Twa-Leggit Mice by J K Annand

My mither says that we hae mice

That open air-ticht tins

And eat her chocolate biscuits

And cakes and siclike things.

Nae doubt it is an awfu shame

That mice should get the blame.

It’s really me that rypes the tins

When left alane at hame.

But jings! I get fair hungert

And biscuits taste sae nice.

But dinna tell my mither for

She thinks it is the mice

The Primary 3 poem is The Sair Finger by Walter Wingate.

The Sair Finger by Walter Wingate

You’ve hurt your finger? Puir wee man!

Your pinkie? Deary me!

Noo, juist you haud it that wey till

I get my specs and see!

My, so it is – and there’s the skelf!

Noo, dinna greet nae mair.

See there – my needle’s gotten’t out!

I’m sure that wasna sair?

And noo, to make it hale the morn.

Put on a wee bit saw.

And tie a bonnie hankie roun’t –

Noo, there na – rin awa’!

Your finger sair ana’? Ye rogue.

Ye’re only letting on!

Weel, weel, then – see noo, there ye are.

Row’d up the same as John.

Pupils will be chosen to perform their poem in front of judges and the winners from each stage will then perform at our Scots Verse Celebration on the 1st February.
