Our P2 pupils have been very busy over the past few weeks!
Literacy
The pupils have been learning to spell words with the ‘igh’ sound this week. They also wrote some fantastic narrative stories based on their own Mr Men character. They were able to include a detailed character and setting description. They then included a plot with a beginning, middle and end.
Numeracy
All pupils have been learning to multiply numbers by 2 using a calculator. As well as this, the pupils have been learning to divide numbers by sharing them into equal groups.
Across the Curriculum
Our pupils created some fantastic pieces of animal art inspired by Henri Rousseau. They also enjoyed their first visit to the park during our community walk!
All pupils have been learning to spell their common words on their common word grids over the past 4 weeks.
I have given all pupils a copy of their current common words to continue to practise spelling them at home. This homework is not compulsory but participating in this homework task will help your child with spelling and writing as they progress into P3 next session.
If you have any further queries or would like to send me a picture of some completed spelling tasks, my email is:

The pupils have been learning to spell words with the ‘oi’ sound this week. Additionally, the pupils are learning to spell common and tricky words. We have created personalised grids that will be sent home next week so this can be a focus at home.

Our class have been focusing on team work and the skills required for effective team work. The pupils then engaged in a Lego challenge and put these skills to use! They were able to reflect on what they did well as a team and could identify areas for improvement.
The pupils also loved making their own stone soup recipes during our community walk.
Our pupils have been very busy over the past few weeks.

The P2 pupils have been exploring the purpose of non-fiction and fiction texts. They were able to discuss the differences between the texts and could use this knowledge to sort the books from our class library into the correct genres. Our pupils have also been learning to spell words with the ‘ow’ sound this week.
A huge well done to all of our pupils who made it through the final stages of the Scots Verse Competition. Leah was our P2 runner up and Emily was our winner!

Our walk this week was inspired by our poem ‘A Want Tae be a Dinosaur’.
All pupils went down to the river and enjoyed excavating the sand for dinosaur bones and other types of treasure!
All pupils will be reciting their poems on Wednesday, with 5 being selected to enter our Scots Verse Competition.
As part of our Scotland topic all classes are learning a Scots poem. The Primary 2 poem is The Dinosaur by L. Griffiths.
