Archaeology Scotland visited the school last week and we were learning all about what archaeologists do. We got to be archaeologists and dig through different materials to see what we could find.

Thank you to all parents and carers that were able to make it along to our sharing the learning event, we hope you enjoyed your afternoon and learned a little more about how we teach reading in school.

We are learning about length. We are measuring with non-standard units e.g. how many cubes long is the table.
Can you complete some measuring challenges around the house?

Firstly a huge well done to all the pupils for a fantastic performance of Bonnie Wee Jeanie Macoll, along with an excellent recital of ‘Up in the morning early’ by Robert Burns. The children also enjoyed learning our new school song.
Back in class we’ve been hard at work learning the sound and formation for ‘f’. Meanwhile P2 pupils have been spelling words with ‘er’.
We’ve been using word cards and letter tiles to help read and write cvc words independently.
We also enjoy using the computers to reinforce our learning.

This week we are learning about the phoneme ‘er’.
Listen to the song below-
Choose an activity to complete from the spelling grid below.

We are learning to identify odd and even numbers within 100. Play a version of the game below. If you have a dice at home, roll it twice to create a 2 digit number. Talk about is it odd or even? What digit tells us, the units. Pupils could draw their own track and finish line.

This week Primary 1 are learning the phoneme ‘f’.
Please see the suggested activities below to help your children practise this sound and its formation.

Listen to the Jolly song by following the link below.
Can your child read these CVC words by blending the sounds together?
We have been learning about odd and even numbers within 10.
Activity: Write the numbers 1-10 on post it notes or scrap pieces of paper. Sort into groups ‘odd’ or ‘even’. It would be helpful if children could use concrete materials when sorting the numbers to visualise which numbers have ‘an odd one out’. You could use pasta, cheerios, lego blocks or any other loose parts around the house.
