Literacy Homework Week 2

This week is all about formation and handwriting.  Please complete the worksheet above and return by Friday 14th November.

Please also remember to keep practising your Big Talks at home, ready to be presented to the class next week.  Later in the week I will post details of which day each child will be presenting.  We are really looking forward to hearing them!

Week Ending 07.11.25

It is the end of another busy week in Primary 1!

This week we have been consolidating our knowledge of the initial sounds covered so far (a, t, s, i, p, n) before we move onto new learning next week.

We also continued to work on our common words. We had lots of practise reading and writing them. We typed them on the computer, made them out of playdoh, did some rainbow writing on some very big paper and even managed to spot some of our common words in books from the class library.

In numeracy, we continued to work on forming numbers up to 20 and  addition. We looked at “one more and one less” using concrete materials like the cubes and used other strategies such as the number lines. We enjoyed playing partner games at our stations and enjoyed giving each other a ‘challenge’.

In writing, we did a detailed drawing of ‘I am splashing in wellies’.

Some of the detail in our drawings is improving lots and some of us even tried to write the sentence to match.  Take a look!

This week we also had a visit from the Firefighters, made fantastic firework artwork, went on a walk around the community, started a new dance topic in P.E and attended our very first ‘Discovery Dens’ where we took part in things like clay modelling and pancake making! Phew!

*note- all pupils have been sent home with a large piece of paper which can be used for Big Talk preparation/presentation*

Literacy Homework Week 1: Big Talk Preparation

This is Week 1 of our next homework block.  This block is focusing on literacy.  Week 1’s task is preparing for Big Talk Week which will start on Monday 17th November.  Details are as follows:

Big Talk Homework

Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’.  This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class.  The topic will change depending on the focus for that term.  This term our Health topic is Myself and My Family.  At home, your child should prepare and practise their talk.  They can bring in photos or posters to help them. Please see below a great example of a poster that was made.  They used lots of drawings instead of writing which helped the child remember what to say about each person in their family.

Some ideas to include in their talk might be:

  • A photo or drawing of themselves. Talk about them – What they like? Dislike? etc.
  • Photos or drawings of their family.  Who lives in their house? Any pets?

The talk should be ready to be presented the week bg Monday 17th November. More details will be given shortly (please check Blog) about which day that week your child will be giving their talk.

We look forward to hearing them!
