Week ending 31st Oct

What a spooky, fun week we have had in Primary 1! Our sounds this week were p and n. The links for the Jolly Phonics songs are below.

We’re continuing to work hard to recognise the letters and form them correctly. We’ve also had fun doing lots of p and n activities like designing pumpkins and making potions, designing necklaces and using Halloween pompoms to form the letter.

In numeracy we’ve continued to focus on numbers 0-10 and 0-20. We’ve looked at recognising numbers, counting and working out the missing numbers. We used the number fans to play ‘show me’ games.

We also began to learn about addition. We had lots of knowledge already and  described adding  as “putting things together” “combining” and “makes the number bigger”.

We used the spinners and animals to combine groups to find a total and also used the numicon to add. Some of us were able to use the addition sign to create our first calculations!

We have also had lots of spooky Halloween fun this week. We played Hallowe’en games at PE, sung Halloween songs in Music and made some fantastic Hallowe’en crafts. We hope you loved our Frankenstein Monster decoration!

On Friday, we joined up with Primary 2 and had some more Hallowe’en fun! We played games, danced and had a snack in the Primary 2 classroom. In our own classroom we had some spooky sensory activities, like making ‘ice-screeeeam” with foam and creepy crawlies and scented playdoh. We also got a chance to use a hammer and some nails in a pumpkin and worked together to crack them open and see what was inside!

Here are some pictures, you might also find some more on the P2 blog!

We wish you all a happy Hallowe’en weekend! 🎃👻
