Week Ending 24.10.25

It has been a lovely week catching up with everyone after the October Holiday. Primary 1 have come back ready for action as we continued our learning of the initial sounds. This week our focus sounds were ‘s’ and ‘i’.

Here are the links to the Jolly Phonics song and action videos which would be really useful to practise together at home.

Primary 1 were delighted to have some visitors to our class, including Inky the Mouse who took a quick selfie with our  class! We worked hard this week on our formation of each letter and began to look at building some words with the sounds we have learned so far. You can use the card sent home on parents night to do this at home, too! We also began to learn some ‘common words’ which sometimes cannot be sounded out.

We consolidated our learning with lots of activities including creating our own Sammy the Snake and Incy Wincy Spider crafts. You might have seen our wonderful creations coming home in our bags this week!

In numeracy, we learned how to ‘subitize’ which means looking at how many items are in a group, or in a pattern (like on a dice) without counting them. This is a really useful skill which lots of us found very fun to practise. We have also been looking at missing numbers, with some of us building and writing numbers up to 20. We will continue to work on ordering numbers in the coming weeks.

Here are some other snaps taken during this busy week!

Finally, a quick note to say that our day for walking around the village will be changing from next week. We will now be walking on  Thursday with Mrs Hasson.
