wk ending 10 October

This week we have started learning about sounds. We will be introduced to two new sounds each week, from the ‘Active Literacy’ programme. We began our learning with the ‘a’ and ‘t’ sound.

Here is a link to the Jolly Phonics rhyme and action videos for each sound which could be used to support our learning at home. You could also begin to use the sound cards issued on parents night to practise each sound and begin to word build. We were amazed to discover that we can already build the word ‘at’ with the sounds we learned this week.

We worked hard on the formation of each letter and self assessed our work using tickled pink and green for growth.

In numeracy, we continued working on our number sense, formation and ordering. We used the rekenreks to make number and show them in different ways.

On Wednesday afternoon, we celebrated a wonderful first term in Primary 1 with a party. We danced, played games and all had a lovely time together our hard work in P1.

Here are some other pictures from a fun filled week in P1! We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and we look forward to seeing you all again in Term 2.

Wk ending 3rd Oct

This week we have been working on our formation of 6,7 and 8. We worked hard to form them correctly in our jotters, made some sparkly numbers and  used the bingo dabbers to practise our hand eye coordination and make some lovely 8s.

In numeracy, we also worked on matching the numicon and practiced our scissor skills at the same time, some of us are getting very good at cutting around shapes carefully.

Here are some more pictures of us practising formation, including using loose parts and the peg boards!

We also continued to work on hearing sounds in words. We played lots of games such as I Spy and word bingo. We also created some wonderful drawings of “My Face” at writing time.

In gym, we have been continuing to learn how to move our bodies well and exploring how to manage and control it. We have been practising moving fast and moving slow.

We have also found out how to use and share space safely. This week we played a new game called ‘Shark attack!’ where we had to listen and react quickly to the whistle, finding an island to live on as fast as we could!

During our walk this week we collected leaves for our artwork. We decided to create leaf friends. Look at our amazing creations!

As we were given a MASSIVE box last week, we decided to work together to turn it into something special. We all planned what we wanted the box to be. We had done great, creative designs.

On Friday afternoon, we got to work on creating something special! We decided to make a den and worked together beautifully to bring it to life. We realised that when the doors were closed, the den was too dark to see! We decided to add some windows and Mrs Hasson helped us to add some curtains. We even made it cosy on the inside with some things from around our classroom.
