Wk ending 4th October

This week in numeracy, we have been consolidating numbers 0-10.  We are learning how to subitise (know an amount without counting) and order numbers on a numberline.

In literacy, we have been learning our first two sounds, ‘a’ and ‘t’.  We have been working hard to form them correctly in our writing.  We also had great fun using the chairs, blocks and money to build a train with tickets.

We went a number hunt this week on our walk and found lots of numbers around the village.  Reuben spotted a number pattern in the even street numbers and could count backwards in 2s.  Well done Reuben!

We were learning about the police during our People Who Help Us topic this week.  We had great fun using the magnifying glasses and Incident Forms to record the crimes!

And look at our fantastic firefighter handprint artwork.  It has made a lovely display outside the classroom.

Homework Wk 3

This week our homework is all about shapes. We have been learning to identify and talk about 2D and 3D shapes in class so at home we would like you to find and talk about different shapes in food you eat.

Homework should be completed and returned by Friday 4th October.

P1 gym

Primary 1 have been so independent in getting changed into their shorts and gym shoes. Parents, it really helps us if we have names on trousers, skirts, pinafores and shorts.

We have been learning to use opposite words such as high/low, fast/slow, big/small, narrow/wide to move around the gym hall. We played banana tig and have been working as a team to play ball games.

We also tried some yoga back in class.

Wk ending 27th Sept

This week in numeracy we have been learning all about 7 and 8. We have been learning how to form them correctly when we write them and using Numicon to explore different ways to make 7 and 8.

Rosa even spotted a number 7 in our blocks…

In literacy we have been learning how to split words into syllables. We played games to sort pictures and animals into 1, 2, 3 or 4 syllable words.

We had great fun visiting the ECC this week during our afternoon walk…

And we’ve had great fun making a hospital when we were playing with the hospital equipment…

Our block play is improving too. Look at what we’ve been building…

Change to gym day!

Please note that P1’s gym day will change from a Thursday to a Friday for the next three weeks, starting this week.

This is to accommodate rugby sessions for our older pupils.

Please remember to remove any earrings on Friday mornings for the next three weeks and ensure pupils have their gym kits in school.

Thank you.

Mrs Schendel

Homework Week 2

Thank you for completing last week’s pattern homework so well! It was great to see 😊 Please return the homework by Friday 27th September.

This week is all about number formation. Please practise forming the numbers properly. See the photos below for the rhymes we use to help them remember how to form them correctly.  You can use additional pages in the jotter to practice more if you would like. Then complete the bottom part by circling all the number fives, discussing all the different ways we can represent numbers.

Have fun!

Wk ending 19th Sept

We have been learning all about the number 4, 5 and 6 this week.  We have been learning how to form the numbers correctly when writing them and using the Numicon to investigate different ways to make them.

In literacy, we have been learning about the differences between letters, words and sentences.  We loved playing a game using the hula hoops to jump the words.

We are continuing to learn about all the people who can help us in the community.  We matched the problems with the correct people who could help.  We also had great fun with the costumes!

We were invited to join Primary 3 this week to become scientists. Mrs Withers had given them the task to help save Humpty Dumpty.  We had to predict whether the experiments would save him and then we helped them conduct experiments to see what was best to  save Humpty Dumpty from cracking.  It was great fun! Thanks Primary 3 for inviting us along for a great afternoon!

We have enjoyed the sunshine this week with lots of playing outside too!

Homework Week 1

The homework above has been given to your child in their new homework jotter.  For the next four weeks these will be issued on a Monday and to be returned, completed, by Friday.  However as this is a holiday weekend, homework should be returned this week by Thursday 19th September.

This week is all about patterns.  Please  help your child complete the caterpillars using the correct colours to finish the pattern.  You could also go on a pattern hunt around the house or garden to find more patterns!  These could be written at the bottom of the sheet or you could email me any photos of patterns you find:

Have fun!
