Support and Information – Gaelic Medium Education
Pupils in Gaelic-medium education are taught primarily through Gaelic with English being introduced later as a second language. French is our third language here at Sgoil na Coille Nuaidh.
Dòighean Teagaisg | Gaelic-medium Teaching Methods
We undertake total Gaelic immersion in our Gaelic classes until primary 4 where all learning is undertaken in Gaelic. This is to ensure our GME pupils build a strong foundation in the Gaelic language onto which we can further develop our pupils learning in the future. When the children enter the immersion phase of their learning in primary 4, where English is gradually introduced, the pupils learning is still undertaken through the medium of Gaelic. Active learning is used across all classes to promote language acquisition and to allow our pupils to use their Gaelic in a variety of activities and relevant experiences.
Taobh a-muigh na sgoile | Extra-curricular Activities
We encourage our GME pupils and their families to take part in as many Gaelic activities out with school as they can. These include the local and national Mòdan, Fèisean, and other events or opportunities that may be available. Information on events are shared with all our families. This also helps our families to strengthen Gaelic as a family language and gives pupils different opportunities for using Gaelic out with the classroom.
