Gymnastic is a Favourite

We have loved our gymnastic sessions over the past few weeks. We have been developing confidence with using the equipment, testing our limits and setting personal targets.

Building Confidence in Literacy

There has been a lot of changes for our pupils within their literacy.

  • We have introduced Nessy to help set targets for spelling and reading, consolidate learning and improve confidence with typing.
  • We have been using colourful semantics to support with writing.
  • We have enjoyed using some active spelling activities to consolidate our phonemes and spelling words.

Outdoor Learning

This term we have been lucky and enjoyed some activities outdoors. We have been on a shopping trip to our local supermarket and started our work at the Dean Park with Sarah and the Park Rangers, Christine and Howie.

While at Dean Park we have been:

  • Testing our limits through risky play at the playground while encouraging each other to be brave and adventurous.
  • Making Bird Food Pizzas for the birds and other forest animals around the park.
  • Feeding the farm animals (some of us managed to face our fears and pet them)
  • Fishing and sorting water insects
  • Working as a team to build the perfect den.

Scotland Topic Food Tasting

Our topic for Term 2 is Scotland and as a special treat we tried some well known Scottish foods. We then linked this to our numeracy work and went around the school asking other staff members their favourite food using tally marks and bar graphs.

Christmas Activities

The Christmas activities have started.

We enjoyed a visit to the Christmas Fayre and then enjoyed some rainbow toast after the hard work of spending our pennies.

We had our first Movie and Hot Chocolate session after being disappointing when a swimming period was cancelled. We also made some melted snowman biscuits. We are so lucky.

Huge Progress in Numeracy

We have been working hard in our numeracy and covered various topics. We have looked at:

  • Place value within 1000
  • Mental maths
  • Number facts
  • Column addition with regrouping.
  • Column subtraction
  • Understanding addition and subtraction signs

And of course, our friends from Toy Story helped us with our counting.
