Please keep practising alphabet letter names and sounds. I have put the link to a really helpful song to reinforce the difference between letter names and sounds. This will help with decoding and blending words.
Alphabet Phonics Song – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PmB3SIjNdQ
This is a list of the phonemes the class have covered so far. I will update this weekly as I think it will be of benefit to recap these as often as possible. We have a song in class “Walk the Walls” your child could sing as they read the phonemes.
sh, th, ng, ch, wh, ph, ee, oo, ck, ai, oy, oa
Common Words

Please try to read and spell all common words daily. (into, like, all, here, there, were)
The spelling activity grid in each homework folder will give you some ideas. |

The class are due to start Stage 2 phonemes. However, after assessing Stage 1 today, I feel the children will benefit from recapping the phonemes we have already covered, before moving on. |
Reading Book(s) | Please ask your child to retell the story they have just read. You could ask them who/what/where and when questions.
Read for enjoyment. You could choose a sentence to read together. We have been doing “I read, we read then you read” in class so this is something the children are familiar with. |
Maths | Please practise your numbers to 100. You could play a game of ‘show me’. You say a number to your child, they write the number. Then swap roles.
Play a few games of Place Value Basketball to reinforce what we are doing in class. Topmarks – Place Value Basketball https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/place-value-basketball This is also a great site to help your child with their numbers to 100. Well done to Allison, she is our Rockstar Reader this week!
Now that we have achieved our Core Reading Schools Award, we are keen to continue all of our hard work and maintain our positive ‘reading for enjoyment’ ethos. We are planning to visit the Stewarton Library again this session but before we do that, we would like to ensure that all library books borrowed last year are returned. Can you please return any books borrowed previously or ask your child/ren to bring them into school to be returned on their next visit? It is important that we support our local library as much as possible as it is such an important community resource for everyone. Thanks
