P1B and P1R took their role very seriously last week when learning how to look after a baby. They were able to discuss and learn about what and how babies are fed, how to change nappy and how to hold a baby safely. They were able to role play everything they had learned in the home corner and learn from each others own experience with babies in their families.
Well done P1!
P1R loved their first Sports Day đđ well done everyone for taking part, weâre so proud of you all! đ

Hi everyone,
Just a reminder of our previous post. Please see below re resources for tomorrow’s ‘looking after a baby’ session.
“Recently, in Health and Wellbeing, P1 have been focusing on the needs of a baby. As part of this, next Tuesday morning (before Sports Day), P1B and P1R are going to be taking part in a âlooking after a babyâ session.
For this, we are asking all children to bring a teddy or baby doll to look after on Tuesday 2nd June. Please make sure that learners do not bring their most precious teddies. If you have any questions, please donât hesitate to ask.
We are really looking forward to it! Thanks very much,
Miss Barrett and Miss Ronald”

P1R started work on data handling today. We started by making our own class pictograms on our favourite colour, how we got to school today and our favourite weather! đ Ask your little person about our findings đ
The STEM Showcase was a great success! It was lovely to see everyone who managed along this week. Here are some pictures of our classroom and all the hard work. Didn’t P1R do well?! đ
P1 had so much fun on their school trip this week. We learnt about lots of local trees and plants, visited the castle on a private tour, and played in the adventure playground đłđąđ° Thanks again to our parent helpers for all your support đ
There will be more pictures of our trees and plants workshop on Tuesday 24th at our STEM showcase, we’re keeping them a surprise until then!
Have a lovely weekend everyone âď¸
Hi,
We are all very excited for our school trip tomorrow to Dean Castle Country Park!
Please remember to wear school uniform and weather appropriate clothes. Lots of children took home their puddle-suits and wellies for the occasion!
Any snacks/drinks/lunch should be brought in a disposable plastic bag. Any lunches ordered through the school app will be handed to learners in class in the morning. Ideally, learners should bring drinks in a disposable bottle or carton. School bags will be left in school. Feel free to put a change of clothes in learners bag for when they return to school, but please note (unless you ask the teacher otherwise), this change of clothes will not come on the trip with us.
We will be leaving at 9am sharp, so please make sure everyone arrives on time! Look forward to seeing you all then!
Thanks, Miss Ronald and Miss Barrett
Hi all,
Next week, P1R and P1B will be visiting Dean Park in Kilmarnock for our school trip, linking in with our current STEM topic on Plant Growth and Plant Care.
Please note the new date of our school trip is Tuesday 17th March: this is different to the original date of Wednesday 18th March. P1 will be away for the school day and will be travelling by school bus. Please ensure that all learners wear their uniform and dress weather appropriate, as well as bring snacks/lunch/drinks in a disposable plastic bag. If any learners want to order a packed lunch from the school, then please do this through the lunch app as soon as possible. We would also really appreciate if you can ensure that all names are on uniform and jackets, to support with smooth transitions between workshops and areas.
The cost of this school trip is ÂŁ4. This is now up on Parent Pay and available to pay.
If you have any questions regarding this, then please speak to Miss Ronald or Miss Barrett. Thanks!

As part of World Thinking Day, on Monday 23rd February, pupils are invited to wear their Girlguiding (Rainbows, Brownies, Guides) or Scouts uniform.
Thank you!
This afternoon, P1R enjoyed some paired reading. Learners read and explored their story with a peer from another reading group. Everyone is doing so well on their reading journey! How lucky are we to have such a nice library space to use too?! đ
This Friday is our Scottish Assembly. All children are invited to wear something tartan (a piece of clothing, an accessory etc) to celebrate the day.
Well done to all our hard workers in P1R who have spent weeks preparing for this special event. A special good luck to our three finalists!
Thanks,
Miss Ronald
During Outdoor Learning this week Primary 1 had the opportunity to work on their song for our Burns assembly next week.
Why not ask for a rendition?

Both Primary 1 classes joined forces this week again for outdoor learning.
Yet again the weather did not stop them from working as a team to come up with creative ways to approach their tasks.
They experimented with different ideas to measure the depth of their digging by using non-standard units of measure (hands, feet and even legs to name a few). They developed their fine motor skills while creating number lines with chalk. Then took on different characters during role-play, it seems we have some budding baristas in the classes. Some children used the rain and paintbrushes, they had a lot of fun working on their letter formation and common words. There was also some design problems solved in the construction area with water jugs being built to catch the rain.
Literacy, numeracy, science and expressive arts all in a Primary 1 afternoon!
P1R have been so lucky this week. They have had a visit from two Mystery Readers as part of our Reading Schools journey.
Can you guess who this Mystery Reader is reading One Button Benny?
The class loved that the book had come from Stewarton library, a great use of our local resources! It reminded the class that the library is a fantastic way to borrow books to read and try lots of different genres.

Thank you very much to all of our Mystery Readers!
P1B and P1R had a lovely afternoon yesterday trying some different Scottish foods and drink.
Before our tasting, we voted on the things we thought we would and wouldnât like. We spoke about all the different foods – where they came from and what made them Scottish. Then, we onto the tastingâŚ
We had some thumbs up and some very BIG thumbs down for certain foods.
Note to self, pepper oatcakes are very spicy⌠Nothing a little Irn Bru couldnât fix though!
Well done P1 for being brave and trying things out of your comfort zoneÂ

P1R have been enjoying learning about position and direction, as well as computer programming when using the Bee Bots. Today, we built mazes for our bee bots to work their way through and programmed them with left, right, forwards and backwards. Learners worked in small groups to build their maze. I think they are a-maz-ing!
A huge thanks to Hollie’s Gran for visiting our class as a “Mystery Reader” today. Everyone loved listening to “The Girl, The Bear and the Magic Shoes” and discussing their favourite parts

Thanks again!
Merry Christmas to all our P1R families! We hope you have a happy, safe and relaxing Christmas holiday. Look forward to being back together on Monday 5th January đ thanks for your continued support! Miss Ronald and Miss Whiteford

We loved going Christmas shopping this week. We canât wait to give our presents to our families đ 9 sleeps to go!
