Card fun!

A couple of children have been bringing Uno cards into class to play as part of our card games for soft start.  This game was very confusing to many in the class so Mrs A decided to teach everyone how to play the game “Switch” which is very similar to “Uno”.  Here you can see we were having great fun – even Mrs A wanted to join in!

Of course, she didn’t win!!

80’s singing and dancing!

I’d just like to say a huge thank you to all pupils and parents for the great effort they made in our 80’s themed day!  Everyone looked amazing and just the part for our show piece.  Now I just have to work out how to put all the clips together!  Many thanks once again.  Your commitment to our learning is very much appreciated.

As our decade is the 80s could everyone in P5 come to school on Tuesday wearing any 80’s styles – bright clothes, leg warmers, denim or leather jackets, track suits (shell suits if any still exist!!)  Curly or spiky hair dos.  Children have been researching some of the hairstyles, music and fashion from this era and have found much of it to be hilarious – particularly  “the mullet”!!!   Have another look with your child online and come up with a similar outfit.

Any other 80s memorabilia would be welcome – old mobile phones (the brick) cassette players etc.  We are hoping to film our decade on Tuesday.  Let’s ROCK the 80’s!!!

Having fun exploring the 80’s music and dancing along!

Prime Time

We have been learning about prime factorisation, recognising prime numbers and factoring equations to get to the prime root.  Some children were so keen to complete written tasks that they continued into their computer game time!

P5 have been exploring prime and composite numbers. They have been discussing which numbers have only 2 factors – those are prime numbers.  All the others with more than 2 factors are composite numbers.

We have also been looking for all the factors of given numbers up to and beyond 100.

Mindfulness Fridays

Here is an update on our mindfulness Fridays.

This is certainly a work in progress but the children have shown great determination to do a great job.  We will hopefully finish these this coming week.  We love how different they all are even though we followed the same process :

On Friday we continued looking after our mental health and wellbeing.  We took part in some mindfulness art work.  We have been looking into optical illusions.  These photos are the first step in this particular piece of art.  We are looking forward to adding some colour, tints and shade, later this week.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Week

On Friday we enjoyed a yoga session led by  one of our lovely parents. It was fun and helped us to see how balanced we could be!

We started off our Mental Health Week with a brisk walk around the Lagoons.  Unfortunately, there are no photos as once we had left the school the rain came teeming down!  We showed that we were made of stronger stuff though and still enjoyed our “stroll” where we were delighted to come across a pair of nesting swans.

On Wednesday we enjoyed a dance/gymnastic session in the hall.  What fun we had – the pictures speak for themselves :

On Thursday we look forward to a chilled out, relaxing afternoon with a movie.

Maths and Numeracy

We have been working collaboratively within our groups. We had to work together to simply cut and make a set of numbers 0-100 and organise them in the best way to find given numbers.  We were then given different multiplication and division facts to find the answers to. It was great to see everyone working for their team to win the game.

Over the past few weeks P5 have been working on organising data in different ways.  Last week we looked at bar graphs and how to collect, organise, display and read information using a bar graph:

Article 13 : We have the right to express ourselves.

Last term, P5 were having fun expressing themselves through dance:

Having fun with the alphabet

In P5 we have been learning dictionary skills to help us with our spelling and story writing.  We have been learning about the alphabet and placing letters and words into alphabetical order.  Here we were playing a game with our spelling words called, “Get  into order.”  The cards were dealt to each player and they had to place their cards one at a time.  The winner was the first to use up all their cards.
