HOMEWORK

I will load on resources that the children can be working on continuously to build confidence, knowledge and skills.

As we move through different learning, I will add to this over time.

**Gym/PE days are on a Wednesday and Friday this term & swimming is on a Monday**

**Please Note**

Homework jotters are for the children to work in at home. They need to bring them on a Monday so they can stick their new words in or whatever day thereafter if they are absent on a Monday.

I do not take in jotters to mark as there shouldn’t be an exchange of items from home due to covid. Jotters would have to be quarantined for 48hrs before marking so this is not practical as ideally the children should be referring to their jotters daily in order to practise their words.

I can see who has been completing homework and very much appreciate your support in this as it also shows in their ability in class.

Any homework set or sent home should not be returned; however, it can be photographed and loaded onto your child’s Learning Journal for me to view or give feedback if you wish as I check in to the Learning Journals once a week.

**Many thanks – Miss McQueen**

****THE CHILDREN WILL BE SWIMMING EVERY MONDAY FROM NOW UNTIL THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS, SO REMEMBER SWIMWEAR AND A TOWEL****😃

  • These are last week’s words; however, most children need another week in order to know these. If your child is one who is managing  these, then reinforce spelling with previous weeks spellings in order to practise retention.
  • The children have been learning to measure using non standard units. This means they are using anything they can lift and use to guess and measure things – for example: how many cubes, paper clips, tins, hands long/high/wide do you think an object is? Anything practical at home to reinforce this would be great.

As always, your support is very much appreciated.

See post from 25/04/2022 for numeracy😃👍

Weekly spelling lists for the week beginning 25/04/2022

  • Can spelling be practised in some way each night at home, whenever possible.
  • Some children have reading books that they bring home each night, to be read daily, whenever possible.
  • Some children have word lists sent home, to be read daily, whenever possible.
  • Can those children who don’t have any of these sent home, continue to learn the Jolly Phonics sounds as often as possible in order for them to progress on to a word list.

Numeracy

Continue to reinforce previous numeracy activities as these are core skills.

This term the children will be learning about length, volume and capacity, using non-standard units and using language like longer, shorter, full, empty.

We will also be working with and learning about number equations symbols like greater than >, less than <, equals =, add +, subtract -.

As always, your support is very much appreciated.

Time

We have been learning about time – days of the week, months of the years, seasons, o’clock and half past in analogue and digital time. We have been looking at daily routines and the order in which they happen and relating this to the time of day. Any input at home would be brilliant as this will reinforce what has been covered in the classroom.

Fractions

We are learning about basic fractions this week; starting with halves and then quarters. The children will have a variety of learning opportunities based around this, but again, anything that you can do at home is always supportive and makes learning relevant in the real world. For example – cutting a sandwich into halves or quarters; sharing out sweets between 2 or 4 people; cutting pizza or cake – just a few ideas for inspiration.

Core Skills

Any additional time spent on any of the interactive numeracy activities would also be beneficial; particularly addition within 20, number recognition and ordering within 100, counting in 10’s, 5’s, 100’s and 2’s, the number before or after (ie what is the number before 17?), counting back.

Your support is very much appreciated as always.

Monday 15th October

  • If your child is on a word list, a list will be sent home with them to practise and learn. As they progress, new lists will be sent home accordingly. I started sending lists on Friday to those who need one.
  • If your child is on a reading book, a book will be given to them to read each night and to bring back each day. They will usually have the same book for a week; however, depending on understanding, blending and fluency, this may change.
  • Jolly phonics sounds should be practised every day for all.

I sent home an addition number stories sheet within 10. This is for your child to learn and to become familiar with, so they can quickly recall the addition facts to 10. These should be practised as often as possible – ideally daily.

**The only items that should be carried to and from school are reading books – anything else sent home, you can keep for continued use and guidance.**

Thursday 7th October 2021

After the October week, your child will receive a homework pack with activities that can be practised daily. Please keep this pack at home – I don’t need this to be returned.
