Scottish Child Payment

Today sees the launch of the Scottish Child Payment – a new benefit from Social Security Scotland that is aimed at tackling child poverty in Scotland.

The new payment will see the equivalent of £10 per week being paid for every child under the age of 6 living in a low income household and receiving a qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or one of the legacy benefits (Child tax or working tax credits; income support, income based JSA or income related ESA). The new benefit will be rolled out to every child under 16 by the end of 2022 with payments being made on a 4 weekly basis.

Applications were accepted from November but despite this and a high profile campaign by Social Security Scotland, take up has been disappointing with less than 45% of eligible applications having been made. It is anticipated that there are still around 100,000 children in Scotland who are eligible for this payment but no claim has yet been made. That means a family with two qualifying children could be losing out on more than £1000 per year.

The payments are made 4 weekly and applications couldn’t be simpler. You can apply online at https://www.mygov.scot/scottish-child-payment/how-to-apply/ or by telephone on 0800 182 222.

(If you need any help applying for this please let me know on 01290338404 or 079334162412 – Tracey Bradford)

Easter iLunch

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are all well and staying safe through lockdown. As some of you are aware a few of our families took part in Christmas iLunch which was run by Adam Gibson, Home-Link Worker.  This was a great opportunity for some of our pupils who were given P.E resources, activity books, cooking equipment and recipes etc. Adam is now looking to do an Easter iLunch and has asked if i could gauge interest for this. If you would like to take part again or even for the first time please send me your name and your child/children’s name and i will get back to you asap. Spaces for new families are limited so please try to let me know as soon as you can.

Lockdown Wellbeing

Good morning everyone.

(Adults)…I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. Tomorrow I am hoping to begin our Fun Online Literacy. The books we will be looking at will be the Very Hungry Caterpillar and a Roald Dahl book, (not sure what one yet). I promise my posts will all be fun and will focus on Health and Wellbeing so no maths or spelling from me.

Working from home is difficult and brings it’s own issues. If you need support, advice or even just a chat you can contact me on… eatracey.bradford@glow.sch.uk or 07934162412

(Children)…I am missing your wee faces so much and cannot wait to see you back at school. In the meantime you can email me, message me on teams at The Den or fill in the form on here if you need to speak to me or ask me something. Also remember Mrs McNulty created a QR code to allow me to do Health and Wellbeing check in’s so you can also click on the link below (qr-2) and scan my qr code using your device to allow you to check in. Speak to you all tomorrow. Stay safe.       Mrs B x

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

As we are unable to have families in the school just now due to Covid restrictions, we would like to invite you to take part in some online Literacy fun with your children. To take part all you have to do is add your name at the bottom of this post or contact Mrs Bradford on 01290 338404. Once we have agreed a start date we will print off the activity sheets in school and send them home to you along with the details of the youtube links.
