Good morning boys and girls. Hopefully the rain isn’t too bad and you manage to get outside for some of the day. Eva and I managed a walk in the rain yesterday and jumped in puddles and walked in the river. What things do you like to do on rainy days?
Your assignments for today and tomorrow will go live at 10am and the hand-in time will be 4pm on Wednesday for most of them. I have put the closing date for them to be Friday 15th May at 4pm. I will be on here between 11-12pm and 2-3pm to answer any questions you have regarding work or if you just need a chat. You can also go on YouTube and do Mr Colvn’s Daily Daft Challenge. Remember to have a look at the Challenge Calendar from yesterday to see what to do for the rest of the week. Have a fun day.
*Can I please remind you that if you do upload your work on your e-portfolio that you let me know through the post on Teams*
Numeracy Tuesday 19th & Wednesday 20th May
Look at the links below and have some fun with members of your family. If you can’t print the games off just write the numbers on a piece of paper for the ‘4-in-a-row’ game and write out the sums for ‘Emoji code breaking’. You don’t need to draw the emojis- just write out the numbers. Unfortunately the answer sheet is attached for the code breaker but please don’t look at this part.
‘Hit the Button’ on Topmarks. Choose which times tables you want to practise but try those you find particularly tricky. Look at any other sites where you can play online games- remember to challenge yourself.
Number Talks
Complete the number problem (287-145) or (148-26). Remember to write the title of which strategy you are using in each box. You can write directly on the Number Talks sheet below and upload or write on a piece of paper, take a photo and upload it to your assignments. You can choose from:
*place value partitioning
*keep a constant difference
*adjusting for easier numbers
Use the link below to help remind you of the strategies.
Number Talks Subtraction Visual Aids
Literacy Tuesday 19th May & Wednesday 20th May
Complete only Task 1 and Task 2. If you don’t have a dictionary at home then look the words up online. If using the internet leave the page number column blank.
Family game
You can play this with anybody in your house who is free or you can do it on your own.
Word Race: Each family member will need paper and a pencil for this game. Family members take turns to choose a word for play by randomly choosing a page of the dictionary and then finding the longest word on the page. The chooser writes the word on a piece of paper and places it in centre of table. Each family member then writes as many words as they can, using only the letters of the chosen word, in a two-minute time limit. The winner of each round is the person who finds the most words. You can increase the difficulty of the game by making a rule that words must have at least four letters.
Bug Club
Continue with your Bug Club reading book. Remember to refer to the text to help you answer in full.
This week, we should like you to watch a DVD of your choice and take notes while you are watching it.
DVD & Comic Strip (to be handed in by Friday 22nd May)
This week, we would like you to watch a DVD of your choice and take notes while you are watching it. Then, we would like you to create an amazing comic strip to retell the story you watched. This should be on a piece of paper and divided into little boxes with each box telling a different part of the story, or on computer using a drawing package or creative typing. You have a few days to do this so enjoy the movie with your family and popcorn and then make up a fabulous Comic Strip.
I’ve attached a Comic Strip Template but you don’t have to use this if you other ideas.
Have fun.
Nature Collage
Go exploring in your garden and collect interesting and odd things in a bag or a bucket. Create your own art masterpiece using the items you have collected. You can glue these to a piece of card or paper or make a design on the garden path. You can use any additional supplies you may have in the house to help you complete your creations. Look at the link below for some inspiration. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Challenge Calendar 19th & 20th May
*This is an optional assignment*
Over the next two days the challenges are May Ray Day where you can go outside for a walk or play in your garden and Be a Millionaire Day where you can plan what you would do if you won the lottery. You can photograph what you do and upload it your assignment or post on the General chat. Remember to click ‘hand-in’ so I know you have taken part.
