HOMEWORK WK BG 1/12/25
Literacy: Spelling – Children should practise their individualised spelling words.
Writing Talk Time Homework: This week we are going to be writing a diary entry. Children should think about the Dumfries House trip that we went on last Thursday. They should think about what they did straight away when they woke up; what they did next; what they got upto in the afternoon; what they got upto in the evening; and what they did right before bed. (If they wish they should take some notes in their homework jotter!) If they did not go to Dumfries House, they should instead think of a day in their life- this could be a normal school day or weekend day or it could be an occasion when they got upto something fun or special! They should think about their feelings throughout these experiences. They will be writing in past tense, so should be mindful of this when making notes!
Christmas: I would be so grateful if the kids could practise their part of the poem and Lean On Me in preparation for the church service
HOMEWORK WK BG 24/11/25
Literacy: Children should practise their new spelling words for their spelling quiz at the end of the week.
Christmas: I would be so grateful if the kids could practise their part of the poem and Lean On Me in preparation for the church service. I have also sent home lyrics for the 2 carols we will be singing at Dumfries House on Thursday. A wee song practice each night would be brilliant and very appreciated!
If your child has a speaking part at the Christmas service, they should try and practise their words so that they feel super confident!
Thanks as always for your support!

Numeracy: 2 sided worksheet on 9s and 10s tables to be completed for Friday. This will help with work we are currently covering in class! If possible, the children should also use their multiplication chart to gain confidence and fluency in all of their tables! See below weeks for some games if you want some extra practice at those tables!
Literacy: Children have their individual spelling words list. They should aim to practise these words for 10 minutes each night.
Topic: If children did not manage to complete their topic research homework on hurricanes last week, they should complete this by Wednesday!
Thank you as always for your support. Have a fabulous week!

IT’S NEARLY THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN…
This year, P5’s Christmas church service is called One World, One Light. We want to spread a message of community and companionship. One of our songs we are learning is Lean On Me by Bill Withers.
Please feel free to practise the lyrics at home and have a wee sing-along!

Christmas Cafe
Primary 5 are hosting a Christmas Cafe in the afternoon of Friday 7th of November to raise money for Hillhouse Christmas Present Project. As a class, we will then choose suitable pyjamas and a small gift for children of similar ages. P4-P7 will be invited to the hall to enjoy some biscuits, juice and a colouring in sheet for a 50p donation.
If you are able to, a donation of some affordable biscuits for our cafe would be much appreciated. However, there is no pressure! Please note that we are a nut-free school so any donations must not contain nuts.

Numeracy: Children have been given a worksheet to continue practising their multiplication and division facts. It would be great if they could continue to use their times tables grid to gain confidence in their tables. Recap of all previously learned tables is great, but learners should ensure they feel confident in their 6 and 7 times tables. 10 minutes practising each night at home helps lots! 🙂

Literacy: Spelling- Children should continue to practise their spelling words each night in their work at home book. When they are ready, they will quiz and receive new words.
They should read some of their library book each night. If possible, access MyOn to complete a quiz on their book.
A REQUEST- I would appreciate greatly if you could donate any empty plastic bottles and any old newspapers/magazines to our classroom! 🙂 We are going to be making our own paper mache volcanoes later in the term as part of our natural disasters topic and will need plenty of these. Any contributions are appreciated!
As always, thanks for your support and have a super week!

Numeracy:
Children have been given a times tables grid. They should keep this in a safe place at home, or use blue tack to stick it somewhere they look/access often. Each night, it would be great if they could spend 10/15 minutes revising their times tables. It would be amazing if an adult could quiz them on their tables!
We will be revising all the multiplication tables in class too, however we will be focusing on becoming confident in our 6x and 7x tables. It would be amazing if a particular focus could be given to these. I have sent a worksheet home for completion too.

Literacy: Spelling- Children should use spelling strategies in homework jotters to practise their individualised spelling words in preparation for a quiz on them.
Maths: Weekly Sumdog competition!
Topic: This term we have been reading How to Train Your Dragon. In this book, Hiccup must train a dragon to show that he is brave, fierce and determined and earn his place in the Hairy Hooligan Tribe. For this week’s homework, the children have been given a badge template. I would like them to design a badge, complete with an illustration and their own chosen values/motto for their own tribe/group. The illustrations/images must relate to the values that they choose. For example if one of the values is ‘friendship’, they may draw a group of people holding hands. What are some values that they find important? Do they have a phrase/motto that is good to live by. Please see the attached images for some examples of school badges with important emblems and mottos/values.
