Homework

HOMEWORK DUE FOR FRIDAY 20TH OF DECEMBER 2024

Hello! As this term draws to a close I would just like to say thank you for your support this year so far. I hope you have a happy holiday season! 🙂

This week’s homework is a worksheet with fun, Christmas-themed Literacy activities.

For the first task, the learners must create their own elf. They must use adjectives to describe their elf and verbs to tell the reader what their elf likes to do! Learners should try and uplevel these descriptions, by, for example, using similes.

For the second task, learners will practise their handwriting.

If the children could also continue to practise their Christmas poem and song for the church service, as well as their 2 songs for the singalong, that would be amazing!

Thank you. Have a wonderful week!

HOMEWORK DUE FOR FRIDAY 13TH OF DECEMBER 2024

Hello! Hope you are having a lovely December so far! I cannot believe it is this time of year already.

This week the children have worksheets to complete:

  1. They will correct the Christmas sentences, adding in speech marks.
  2. They will complete the maths addition questions, including carrying.
  3. They will complete the Christmas handwriting sheet, in their neatest handwriting.

As well as this, it would be great if you could encourage the children to continue to practise the poem A Christmas Legend which P5 will be performing in the church at the Christmas Service. It would also be amazing if they could have a wee sing along to The Climb (with actions), Rocking Around the Christmas Tree (with actions) and Jingle Bell Rock.

Thank you and have a lovely week! 🙂

HOMEWORK DUE FOR FRIDAY 6TH OF DECEMBER 2024

        1.  Writing: The children are learning about writing a diary entry. For homework this week,  in their homework jotters, they will write about a memorable day in their life as though they are writing it on the evening of that memorable day.   Key things to include: Dear Diary; Date; In the morning …..; Later on in the day….; In the evening…..; As well as writing about experiences, remember to include your feelings and opinions; Take new paragraphs to show that time has passed between each time discussed during the day;  Conclude the diary entry; Sign off the diary entry.             I will go over this task with the children on Monday morning.  See example below for inspo:

Dear Diary…                                              Saturday 29th June 2024

I started my day by waking up to the sound of birds on the roof. This sounds charming, but really it was just annoying! I went back to sleep and woke up half an hour later. After checking the weather, I felt so happy to see the sun shining and the skies as blue as the sea. I rushed down the stairs, opened the fridge and shouted to Mum to ask what I could have for breakfast. Unfortunately for her but fortunately for me, she didn’t answer so I reached in and helped myself to the box of flapjacks that we had made a few days ago. I joined my sister on the sofa, our usual Saturday seats, and turned the TV on.

Later on in the day, I played with my dogs in the garden. Lucy, the oldest dog, is the best at fetch – she actually gives the toys back for you to throw again.  I then sat in the garden and I watched a dragonfly fly around – I think this was my favourite part of the day.

In the evening, we all had dinner together and shared some funny stories of back when my sister and I were very little. We decided that tomorrow that we would look through some old photos of when we were younger. I am looking forward to that.

Goodnight Diary x

HOMEWORK DUE FOR FRIDAY 22ND OF NOVEMBER 2024

The children have maths worksheets to complete. These are money- related with questions involving finding totals, change and budgeting!

The children have also copied tricky words that they want to practise into their Homework Jotters. They should practise writing these words over and over again- looking, covering, writing and checking.

READING SURVEY- The children have been asked to fill in this survey. It will only take a couple of minutes and if this could be done this week that would be so great. Link: https://forms.office.com/e/J3BmVM2US7

As always, thank you for your support! Have a great week!

The children have a worksheet to complete.

In the Maths section, learners should complete a range of questions on money.

In the Topic section, learners are asked to complete a sentence about the causes and impacts of earthquakes. They are then asked to use the Internet to research an earthquake that has happened in the past.

This should all be completed on the given task sheet.

Thank you for your support.  Hope you have a wonderful week!

In the Maths section, the children will complete decimal calculations.

Thanks as always for your support and hope you have a lovely week!

HOMEWORK DUE FRIDAY 1ST OF NOVEMBER 2024

The children have a physical copy of a worksheet to complete for the end of the week. On the first page, they will complete tasks related to plural nouns (a word search and turning given singular nouns into plural nouns). Over the page, they will practise ordering decimals and adding decimal numbers.

I have also set a Sumdog multiplication task if they have time and want to practise those times tables! This is optional.

As always, have a lovely week and thank you for your support!

HOMEWORK DUE FRIDAY 25TH OF OCTOBER 2024

This week the children have been given homework  specifically tailored to them. This can be found in their homework jotters (or a lined piece of paper that I have given them if I did not receive their homework jotters last week before the holidays).

All pupils have been given their focus spelling words which I would like them to practise in their jotters by looking, covering, writing and checking several times. They will also write some sentences including their focus spelling words.  However, based on areas for improvement that I have identified and most likely discussed with you at parents’ night, I have given them a unique, additional task– this may be practising letter formation, an additional spelling strategy task, maths questions based on areas they found difficult before the holidays, or a short research activity.  These tasks are tailored to each individual pupil and can be found and completed in the homework jotter.

EXTENSION/OPTIONAL: As it is a short week, I do not expect that the children access SumDog as regularly as usual, however,  I have set a SumDog task for those who want to practise to gain that extra confidence!

As always, thank you for your support! Have a lovely week!

Homework due Friday 11th of October 2024

This week I have given out a homework sheet that has 2 pages- a literacy page and a maths page.  The answers have to be completed on the sheet.

  1. Literacy tasks- that cover punctuation, vocabulary and spelling. For questions 1a, b and c, the children will fix and improve the given sentences (adding capital letters, full stops,  commas, wow words,  similes if they wish). For part 2, the children will read over the silent phoneme words and practice spelling them correctly on the back of the page, without looking!
  2. Maths task- questions on times table facts. The children will answer questions on division and multiplication. This is to consolidate what we have been doing in class.
