Talk Time Homework T2 Task 1
This week we will be writing…
instructions for carving a pumpkin lantern
Please talk with your child about pumpkin lanterns they may have made/had, the tools that may be required and the steps needed to prepare the pumpkin for carving.
Talk about the steps that you would need to take when carving and the order in which they must be done.
Think about the verbs/action words required to tell the reader EXACTLY what must be done at each step.
What will the finished product look like and what would they use it for?
Have a go at making a pumpkin lantern!
Writing day is Friday.

READING
Please see your child’s marker for specific group reading homework. Please read and discuss the pages given with your child and sign when this is done. Reading books MUST be brought to school EVERY day as we also use them in class.
This week we will be setting our learning targets for Literacy, Numeracy and HWB in our Personal Learning Plans. Please talk with your child about things that they need to work on, improve or develop in each of these areas. They should also think about what they ACTUALLY need to do to reach their targets. Once complete, PLP’s will be sent home and parents can talk about targets set and record on the PLP what they could do at home to help.

This week we will be writing…
a recount of the visit to Dumfries House
Please talk with your child about the visit to Dumfries House.
They should think of question words WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, WHEN, HOW and be able to recount to you, in a logical sequence, the events of the visit.
They could also think about answering these questions:
Why did we visit?
How did we get there?
What did we do when we got there?
What activities did we take part in?
Who led the groups?
What did we learn?
What is YOUR opinion of the visit and the activities done?
You can write down a few notes if to need to but the actual writing will be done in school.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Each child has been given a ‘Work At Home’ jotter which should be kept in their bag and brought to school EVERY day.
This jotter can be used for homework tasks or any extra practice which the children or yourself feel that they need. Please do any practice work at the front and leave the back for me to add new Tricky Words. Also, see the Tricky Words information further down this post.
Please encourage your child to read or listen to stories read by you.
They have all chosen a Library book according to their Accelerated Reading ZPD number. Reading assessments done throughout the year means that their ZPD level can change.
Library books should be brought to school EVERY day.
Once a book has been read, the children can do a reading comprehension quiz in school or at home to check their understanding of what they have read.

At the back of the Work At Home book, will be written some ‘Tricky Words’ which they should practise learning to spell at home. When they are confident in spelling their words, they can have a wee Check Up in school and new words will be given. They should aim to have a check-up at LEAST twice a week.
