Bridges![Wooden Bridge | Wooden bridge, Bridge clipart, Clip art](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/e4/61/4a/e4614a0e71e6a732478faf23997895d5.jpg)
To finish our STEM IDS on Bridges, we had to complete a
Paper Bridge Challenge.
We worked in our trios to make 4 different types of BEAM bridge…
#1 a simple beam bridge which was a strip of paper.
#2 a beam bridge which was a strip of paper but with the edges folded to make sides.
#3 a beam bridge made of a rolled up piece of paper.
#4 a beam bridge of our own design.
We then had to test the bridges to see which one was most fit for purpose and could hold the most coins.
Here’s what we found…
#1 bridge was too flimsy and just collapsed. It held no coins.
#2 bridge was rigid enough to hold the most coins.
#3 bridge was the most rigid but because it was a cylinder shape, the coins would not balance easily.
#4 our bridge designs were all different with some more fit for purpose than others…
The winning trio’s bridge held an amazing 69+ coins. It would have been more had we not run out of coins!
