What a busy festive week in the ECC 🎅🎄💫

Outdoors this week the children have been enjoying discussing the changes in the weather, exploring in the ice and the forms of the ice 🧊 . They even decorated some Christmas trees, working on their fine motor skills.

This week indoors the children have been exploring in the polar express small world area and they have also been focusing on letter formation and mark making whilst completing their letters for Santa. Some children worked together as part of a team to create a post box to send their letters for Santa 🎅💫

What a busy week we have had!!
Children have  continued to explore nursery rhymes and stories leading into Christmas where they decorated the ECC tree. This led to transient art with loose parts.

During HWB time children listened to Pantosaurus and learned rules about pants and then made their own pants.

During Outdoor play they explored “The Three Little Pigs” and used loose parts and lots of imagination when retelling the story.

🎅🎄It’s the 1st of December countdown to Christmas is on!! 🎅🎄, it’s time to introduce our rhyme of the month. This month our rhyme is Sing a song of Winter ❄️

We’d love your help to decorate the ECC for winter.  Try making your own snowflake at home with paper or sticks and we can use them to make the Playroom feel snowy and who knows maybe we’ll get real snow in time for Christmas. ❄️☃️

The children have continued to build on their knowledge of rhyme by creating rhyming stews.  Most of the children are able to identify rhyming words and can say if a word doesn’t match in a rhyming family.  We’ve created our own rhyming stories and rhyming strings.  We’ve also been using technology to consolidate our learning of rhyming words.  We’ve been recording each other on the iPad and using the talking tubs to record our own voice saying nursery rhymes.

We’ve had some time to relax during this busy season as we build up to Christmas (ssshhh!).  We had Yoga sessions with Jan and mindfulness moments with Jen.  The children enjoy these sessions as it gives everyone a chance to pause and reflect during the day.

Outdoor Learning

The supertato theme has continued outdoors this week as the children were matching the correct amount of potatoes to numbered pots.  Developing their numeral recognition and 1to1 correspondence counting skills.  They also collected data to find out the most popular vegetable and learned how to record and represent their findings in different ways.

The children have been busy little elves in santa’s workshop creating gifts for the Christmas Fayre as part of a whole school enterprise project.  Come along to the Fayre on Friday to see their lovely work.

Outdoors: The children have been continuing with measurement/volume during water play.

Supertato has been a big hit, the children made their own Supertato hero which they were all very proud of. They had to try and save him as he was frozen in ice by Evil Pea,they tried melting the ice with hot and salty water and hitting it with a spade

The children were also playing ring games and working together.

Indoors:  The children have been continuing  with rhyming words through songs and games and also odd one out. They have been exploring the new emotions mirror which they are now beginning to access independently on a daily basis.

In the creative area the children have been self selecting paint and creating Christmas crafts for the Fayre.

The Christmas fayre is on Friday 25th November from 6.30pm, hopefully you can come along with your child and enjoy the festivities and the childrens enterprise goods.

In the outdoor area the children have been exploring the language of measurement in the water tray they have been pouring, measuring and filling. They have also been exploring imaginative play/ role play through recollection of stories. They have shown an interest in Supertato the story and this has transcended into the outdoor area into our garden.

This week in the Main playroom the children have been exploring nursery rhymes and creating firework patterns.

Literacy/Technology

In the Art area  the children have been fireworks using cardboard tubes and paint, crayons and black paint to scrape the firework shapes.  The children have also been creating poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day .

RME/ Literacy/Social

Just a wee reminder to ensure your child has their name on their jumpers and if you can check at home to make sure you have the right jumper.

When we are exploring outdoors as an adult, do we really use our senses to fully experience its wonder!!!!!!!!!!!!

Children are much better than us at taking time to fully appreciate our environment.

So over the month of November I would like you to try take time to stand still with your child outdoors and use your senses:

 Look

Listen

 Smell

 Touch (if appropriate)

 Taste (if appropriate)

Your task is to note one thing for each sense that you notice and one thing for each sense that your child notices.

E.g.          I saw a bird

                I heard a siren.

               I smelt fireworks

               I touched leaves.

               I tasted ice-cream

This week the children have been enjoying some new loose parts materials in the home corner 🪵🪨🧱 They have been inventing recipes using the resources available, helping to develop creative skills by encouraging use of imagination and experimenting freely.

Some of the children also enjoyed creating ‘puffy’ paint monsters 😈

All children were provided with the opportunity to participate in two STEM experiments this week 🧪 We discussed the autumnal changes that is currently taking place, including the changes in leaves as well as the changes in weather. The children explored a wind tunnel experiment and a rain cloud experiment and enjoyed the process 🔬

We have also been exploring ICT this week and using the iPad to explore online activities beneficial to children’s learning 💻

Outdoors this week the children have been discussing the changes between day and night ☀️ 🌚 As the clocks changed last week, we have been discussing the time sequences that take place throughout the day and events that we link to our wider world 🌎

Some children have been exploring our outdoor water tray where they have been measuring using funnels to create Dragons brew 🐉 This encourages development of imaginative skills through story telling and role play.
