Homework W.B 13th March

Hello Primary 6/7! Another jam packed week last week. You all make my heart fill with so much joy! Let’s see what this one has in store for us! Please hand your homework in on Friday  this week.

This week is British Science Week. To celebrate this, I would like you to take part in a mini research project. where you will research a particular scientist (living or not) who made some sort of contribution to our world. Whether the scientist invented something, made something better, contributed enormous ideas, or discovered something, we want to know about it. Your poster should include information about:

  1. The first, middle and last name of your scientist.
  2. A mug shot (picture of your scientist).
  3. Years living (examples: 1901-1959; 1973 – ?)
  4. Their field of study (for example: biology, zoology, marine biology, botany)
  5. The country they were born in.
  6. Where they did / do their work.
  7. A description, in your own words, of what your scientist is most famous for.
  8. Pictures, graphics or illustrations of what your scientist is famous for.
  9. A paragraph, in your own words, explaining how their accomplishment has benefited the world.
  10. Two interesting facts about your scientist.
  11. A quote by your scientist
  12.  A place named after your scientist (may not apply)

    Display of information

    1. Your work must be attractive.

By attractive I mean neat. If your handwriting is difficult to read you should type it. You should have proper spelling and complete sentences.

    2. Your work must be colourful.

I should see vivid colour. Use felt tips, paper and other supplies to enhance the overall look of your final product.

    3. Your project must be creative.

Think of ways to make your project stand out from the crowd. Use all of the space available to you.

    4. Your project must be informative.

In order to meet this requirement you must complete all of the research on your assigned scientist. You should think carefully about how they benefited the world and present this to your readers so that they believe that your scientist is truly a FAMOUS scientist.

You can use your time at soft start to use any materials in school that you need to borrow. Please have your poster completed by Friday 17th March. Please speak to Miss Dunlop if you need support/time during break and lunch.Suggestions for Famous Scientists:

Solo Talk Presentation

This week for homework you are going to prepare a talk. This talk will be all about your cabin that you have created and will be presented from Wednesday 30th March. Your talk should last approximately 2 minutes and should answer the following questions:

Which type of cabin have you created?

What do you know about your chosen class?

Why did you choose that particular class?

What things make your cabin a 1st, 2nd or 3rd class cabin?

What materials did you use to make your cabin?

What was your most favourite part to build?

Would you like to stay in this cabin?

You can use whatever you need to describe your chosen topic: photographs, videos, props etc. Try to think about why you picked this topic to talk about. Remember some people in class may know nothing about the topic you have chosen to discuss, so you must explain it in detail.

I.D.L Homework

This term we have been studying the Titanic as part of our I.D.L topic in class. We have done lots of research so far and found out lots of new and interesting facts. For the next few weeks, as part of your homework, I would like you to make a 1st, 2nd or 3rd class cabin to show your understanding of class difference and what each cabin may have looked like on the Titanic. I have given the idea of creating your cabin inside of a shoe box. It would be great to use recycled materials which you could adapt to fit inside your cabins theme. Remember these rooms should be decorated from the 1912’s and should fit in with the décor of that time. If you need any help, materials or have any questions, please ask me! These should be brought to school on Monday 21st March. Try and be as creative and realistic as you can be. I can’t wait to see your creations! Good luck!
