January Overview
Literacy
We will be continuing with our individual targets working towards our ILP. We will also be focusing on Scottish language including exploring Scottish songs and poems. We will be taking part in a book study linked to a popular Scottish books, Hairy Maclary by Lynley Dodd. We will also be looking at report writing linked to our short topic on Scottish weather. |
Numeracy
In numeracy we will be continuing to work on our individual targets. We will also be focusing on telling the time and subtraction using concrete materials. In mathematics we will be working on size and weight exploring language associated with it including; light, heavy, lightest and heaviest. We will also explore money and length through play in our Hairdressers home corner. |
All my other learning
Our topics for January include learning about Scottish weather and a book study on Hairy Maclary. This will allow for opportunities for learning through play and outdoor learning to explore weather. This will also link to our writing through observing and recording the weather. These contexts for learning will also provide opportunities for drama through exploring the stories of Hairy Maclary and art making collages of the various characters. We will also explore dance and music linked to weather including using sound grids exploring instruments and dance inspired by different weathers. In Health and wellbeing we will be concentrating on ball skills. |

16th January: Zoo Lab | Zoo Lab visit to each class- timetable to follow. |
18th January: Winnie the Pooh Day | Activities linked to Winnie the Pooh in individual classes. |
24th January: UN Education Day | Secondary SLC classes to plan and deliver a lesson to our Primary SLC classes. |
25th January: Burns Night | Individual activities in classes linked to Scottish culture and language throughout January. |
26th January: Burns Night Celebration | SLC Ceilidh in Barony Hall. We will explore some traditional Scottish dances. |
31st January: Open Afternoon | Parents invited to school 1:30- 2:30pm. The focus of our afternoon will be literacy concentrating on Scots language. Some classes may perform a poem or song. |
