Our Learning Journey
August – We settled in well and enjoyed learning the new P7’s responsibilities and roles within the school. The class took advantage of getting to know one another and Miss M and Mrs D. We loved the last bit of sunshine outside playing rounders altogether!
We learned that our Harmony topic this term will be WW2 and asking the inquiry question of ” What can we learn from life on the Home Front?”
We explored how WW2 started and what countries formed AXIS and ALLIED countries.
September –
We began our novel study for this term “Goodnight Mr Tom” by English author Michelle Magorian. We have enjoyed how quickly we are exposed to the experiences of WW2 in the novel as it features the main character William Beech who is an evacuee child.
Our writing block started with recounts and we focused on the Moon Landing.
In numeracy, we revised place value and enjoyed some active activities around this. exploring how to partition and add through a number’s place value.

For PE, we commenced our block of badminton and explored the different serves and return shots we can play.
We turned our attention to Air Raid Patrol Wardens and how British life changed after the declaration of War.
Not forgetting our Galloway Activity Centre Residential!
October
We continue to enhance our comprehension through “Goodnight Mr Tom”, learning more about the main character’s experiences at home and now he is evacuated. Our main focus has been developing our literal and inferential responses.
In numeracy, we looked at showing off all our Number Talks Addition strategies.
We moved onto the different types of air raid shelters and starting designing and constructing our Anderson Air Raid Shelters… this has been a class favourite so far…
Stay tuned for the finished article…
