Important Information

Our P.E. days are Thursdays (period 3) and Fridays (period 6). Please ensure that your child has a change of suitable clothing (shorts/leggings, polo-shirt/t-shirt and trainers) and jewellery is removed.

Earrings are only permitted if they are taped over AND a letter is sent, signed and dated by the parent/carer, explaining they are aware of the risk of their child wearing earrings and will take complete responsibility if there is an accident.

Pupils will be dismissed at the PE doors/pitches on a Friday afternoon. We are encouraging everyone in Primary 7 this year to change into PE clothing. This is in preparation for secondary PE routines.

We have been learning about equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and simplifying fractions. Here are some of our activities:

Mental Health Week activities 🧠

🎨 🧍‍♀️ 🧍

We made paper doves as part of our peace topic 🕊️

We had had some Scottish treats today & spoke about Burns night. We had some dancing entertainment from Isla & took it in turns to say our Scots poem. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Our new Harmony topic is ‘how can we learn to live in peace?’ So far, we have learned about the 4 dimensions of peace: inner peace, social peace, environmental peace & military peace. We worked in collaboration to complete our new peace display. ☮️ ✌🏼 🕊️

As part of World of Work week, we wrote a job application for our dream job. 💭 ✍️ We have a real mixture of dream jobs, such as: fashion designer, child psychologist, teacher, lawyer, surgeon, hairdresser, author, palaeontologist, footballer, doctor, actor and engineer.

We were inspired by Andy Peutherer, a Scottish artist, to paint with a focus on colour and texture. We used layers of paint with sponges and brushes.  🎨

This week is World of Work week. We have created a profile on the My World of Work website and completed a quiz to find out our strengths. We researched different jobs and found out their salaries. We looked at payslips and calculated deductions. We were given a job with a weekly salary, we made a shopping list and looked online to see if we could afford everything we wanted to buy.

Toasting marshmallows & hot chocolate 🔥 ❄️ 🍫

We built igloos & tried to structure them so that they would sustain the strong Antarctic winds. Only 2 out of 5 didn’t blow down! ❄️

We collaborated with P7B to design Christmas themed playground games for the rest of the school to enjoy. 🤩

🎄 🎅🏼

We learned about the Aurora Australis or The Southern Lights in Antarctica. We produced amazing artwork!

We took on different roles and performed a short drama scene about the birth of Jesus. ✨

As part of our Antarctica topic, we modelled and painted clay penguins 🐧

Christmas party! 🎉 🎄✨

We have been learning about Antarctic animals and their adaptations to the cold. We learned about insulation and explored different materials. We submerged one bare hand in ice water and one hand wrapped in bubble wrap in ice water to compare. The hand wrapped in bubble wrap felt much warmer, this helped us to understand how an animals blubber works.

Antarctica artwork 🖤

We have been learning about how climate change is affecting Antarctica. 🇦🇶

We were investigating how ice melts in different types of water. We were also investigating the Albedo Effect by putting ice on different colours of paper. We learned that ice melts quickest in warm water and on black paper. We learned that if the water around Antarctica is warmer, ice could melt which exposes more dark ocean and therefore the earth would become hotter and sea levels would rise.

We have been working on writing reports so we wrote a report on our science experiments. ✍️

Dress as a word day!

A lovely visit to the RBA library, we will now be going every 3 weeks! 📖

Book week Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 📖 We have been enjoying Drop Everything And Read time this week. We worked as a team to solve various different problem solving challenges in order to complete a book themed escape room. We had a visit to the book fair & made a wish list of books we would like to read.

Our stall sold out at the Christmas Fayre! Well done everyone! 🎅🏼

Santa’s little helpers are hard at work making Christmas wreaths to sell at the Christmas fayre on Friday! 🎄 🎅🏼

We loved our very interesting visit from History Alive to consolidate our learning of WW2!

Party time! 🥳 🎃 👻

We have been learning about tonal shading. Inspired by Tim Burton, we created spooky portraits.

We are learning to understand what rationing was like in WW2 by acting out the experiences of people living through it.

Eden & Isla designed a poster for Mrs Taylor to present at her special assembly. 😊

For Dyslexia Awareness Week we created acrostic poems to raise the volume for dyslexia.

We have been learning about the Blitz and the damage caused. We blended red, orange, yellow & purple to create a fiery background to a London skyline.

We learned about the Battle of Britain and the aircrafts involved. We used watercolours to paint either the RAF Supermarine Spitfire or the Hawker Hurricane.

Maths week Scotland – we have been learning about the impact maths has in the world of life and work. We have been exploring how maths is used in different jobs. We took part in a workshop from Lloyds bank & learned about the different things people used as money in the past.

We carried out activities using a stopwatch, learning about tenths and hundredths of a second. We then put the times in order.

Watching ‘life during the war’

For our topic, we are learning ‘What can we learn from life on the home front?’

So far, we have learned about the outbreak of WW2, who was involved, the home guard and ARP wardens.

We planned, designed and modelled our own air raid shelters. Thank you for sending in cardboard! Have a look at our amazing work:
