P6/7 – Miss Thomson

Welcome to P6/7’s blog!

Hi everyone,

Below you will find our PE times. Please bring a pair of shorts/leggings/trousers and a suitable pair of indoor shoes/trainers for PE.

PE TIMES

Wednesday – Period 3 – 10:50-11:40

Friday – Period 6 – 2:00-2:50

So far we have been looking at football and fitness. We will be moving on to rugby, creative dance and social dancing after the October holidays.

HOMEWORK EXAMPLES

We have had some excellent examples of homework handed in by some of our students. They have been very creative, have a look at their hard work!

OUTDOOR P.E.

As it was the last day before the October break we decided to take our P.E. lesson outdoors. This was a brilliant idea until the rain decided to absolutely downpour on us. Some of us continued with our football game, however, others decided to take shelter. We celebrated after it stopped!

MATHS WEEK

For Maths week we were exploring the different ways maths is hiding in our phones. We worked in teams to solve challenges and discover different examples of maths within our phones.

RIVER POSTERS

We have been researching famous rivers around the world and we were able to create posters that display the interesting facts we discovered.

P.E. – FOOTBALL

We have been focusing on developing our football skills during out P.E. times. We have been looking at developing our passing, control and dribbling.

BLACKOUT POETRY – RIVERS

We used published poems to create our very own blackout poetry. We had to carefully select key words to keep that when read make sense and still describe the journey a river takes. Have a look at our work!

WATER CYCLE

We started to explore the water cycle and the different stages that happen throughout. We then used paper plates to create our own display of the water cycle.

RIVER COLLAGE

We designed the background of our river before using tissue paper and card to create a collage of a river.

HARMONY PROJECT – RIVERS

We have been exploring rivers as our current Harmony project topic. For one of our first projects we were looking at the different parts of a river and then we used chalk to create our own river images.

STEM

The class took part in a STEM challenge where they had to create a rocket using only paper, a straw and pieces of tape. They then tested them to see who designed the rocket that went the furthest.

CLASS CHARTER

As a class we decided on the rights and responsibilities we wanted to focus on to create our class charter. We then designed posters and name labels to show we understand and respect our class charter.

TEAM BUILDING

The first few weeks in a new class are the most important for developing positive relationships. As a class we took part in a number of different team building challenges which you can see below.

GROWTH MINDSET

The pupils have been looking at what it means to have a ‘growth mindset’. They created their own representation of this using a door. The closed door has a fixed mindset but when the door is open they have shown what a growth mindset would look like.

ARTWORK

During the first few weeks the pupils were learning about line, texture and patterns. They used this knowledge to create these pieces of art.
