Author visit with Barry Hutchison

Yesterday, Kilmarnock Academy hosted a visit from children’s author Barry Hutchison. Pupils from five other East Ayrshire secondary schools joined some of our S1 pupils in the assembly hall to listen to Barry talk about his books. Pupils had the chance to ask questions and get books signed at the end of the event.

This event was part of our annual Spring Read book festival. Every year in February and March, school librarians arrange for authors to visit our schools and speak to young people about the writing process and their inspiration. These visits are part funded by the host schools and part funded by the Live Literature programme – run by the Scottish Book Trust.

Progression Pathway Information Evening S1, S3, S4 & S5

This evening has been organised to support the pupils as they plan for progression and choices for the next stage of their education.  In order that parents are fully aware of all the options which are available and the courses on offer we invite you to attend an information evening on Thursday 9th February at 7pm.

During this evening there will be a number of different people and sessions available to discuss how best to support your son/daughter, including

  • Information on pathway choices
  • Partner agencies including Skills Development Scotland and Ayrshire College
  • Senior Management and Guidance Staff will be available to answer any questions which you may have.

This is a very important time for the pupils and it is vital that you are equipped with as much information as possible to assist them to make the correct choices.  We hope this information evening will go some way to ensuring this and reassuring you in terms of the new school curriculum.

We look forward to meeting you all at this event.

As part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, GTG Training is holding an Apprentice Recruitment Open Day on Friday 10th March 2017 from 10am until 3pm.  They would like to invite you to attend their showcase of Modern Apprenticeship opportunities, giving pupils an insight into careers in Mechanics, Vehicle Body Repair, Vehicle Spray Paint, Vehicle Parts, Business Administration, Customer Service, Alarm and Garage Engineering.

This is a fantastic opportunity to view their leading-edge training facilities, meet current apprentices and speak with various companies that employ apprentices and find out more about what they have to offer. The apprenticeship programmes offer people aged 16 and over a way to earn while they learn, as they work towards a recognised qualification, skilled employment and greater career prospects.

 Please see the invite attached.

Please note: This event is free of charge and targeted at people aged 16+ with National Grade 4/5, Standard Grades and Intermediates are also accepted (already achieved or currently studying at this level).
