The Higher and Advanced Higher Music classes recently visited the Dean Castle to view the early musical instruments on display. This collection is famous and students were lucky enough to be taken behind the scenes and given a private, guided tour. We saw a range of Renaissance and Baroque musical instruments and learned about the history of Kilmarnock during these times. Students were also given the opportunity to handle priceless items, including swords and armour.
Historical context is an important factor in the study of music as the social upheaval during the Renaissance and Baroque Eras had a huge impact on musical developments. Below are some pictures of our visit.
