Due to Covid-19, face to face training through Public Health Scotland has been postponed.  This affects the delivery of SafeTALK, ASIST and Scottish Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) training.

The EAST team have a range of online CLPL opportunities including nurture, attachment theory, Massage in Schools Programme (MISP), growth mindset, change and loss and resilience.

Children and Young People’s Mental health and Wellbeing

The Mental Health Foundation ScotlandDigital Bricks Learning and Children’s Health Scotland have created a Professional Learning Resource for Scottish Government in Mental Health and Wellbeing. It has been designed for all staff working in schools across Scotland. It is open access and available to anyone who may find it of benefit.

The resource takes a whole school approach centred around prevention and early intervention to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for everyone in the school community. It aims to provide school staff with knowledge and understanding of mental health and wellbeing in schools and a range of opportunities to learn about experiences and advice from practitioners and young people.

There are four main sections split into bitesize topics:

SAMH created ‘We all have mental health: an introduction for teachers’, to provide teachers with an introduction to mental health; equip them with the skills and knowledge to recognise and respond to a pupil who is experiencing a mental health problem; and lead a conversation about positive mental health.  Click here to register interest.

If you are interested in e-learning around suicide, the NHS offer a short course – Suicide Let’s Talk.  This will offer you a useful approach to talking about suicide and signposting people to professional help.

 

Place2Be are currently offering a free 5 week online course developed from their work in schools to enhance professionals’ understanding of children’s mental health and introduce approaches that foster positive wellbeing in schools and communities. Click here for more information.

Health and Wellbeing CLPL from Education Scotland

A range of CLPL opportunities for anyone working in education including supporting children and young people through grief and loss, finding ways to wellbeing through coaching and self empowerment and compassionate and connected classroom.

Place2think – free small group supervision for teaching staff  

Place2Think are small group supervision sessions for education professionals supporting positive mental health in school communities. Facilitated by Place2Be clinicians experienced in school and community settings.   These sessions are fully funded.

National Trauma Training Programme Online Resources

This document summarises the key trauma training resources from the National Trauma Training Programme that are openly available to support all members of the Scottish workforce.

Barnardos Education Community have recognised that teacher workload can often limit the time we have to engage in the meaningful professional learning that we would like. To respond to this, they have created a series of “bitesize” videos which give you access to the information you need quickly. These are focused mostly around the themes of grief, loss and bereavement and they have excellent information about how to support children who have suffered a bereavement.
