We’re going on a BUG hunt!

Everyone had a great time looking for bugs around our school playground, thankfully the rain stayed off!

I have observed living things in the environment over time and am becoming aware of how they depend on each other.
SCN 0-01a
I can distinguish between living and non living things. I can sort living things into groups and explain my decisions.

P6 SKIING

Just a wee reminder that ALL P6 pupils will be attending their first ski lesson tomorrow.

All pupils must have:

  • A snack
  • A bottle of water
  • A long sleeve top
  • Jogger / leggings
  • Long socks
  • Gloves

It would be helpful if they could also have their school uniform in their bag to change into upon their return to school as their ski clothes may be wet.

Some activities for your child to do if your child is self isolating or unwell at home.

Please see the following activities, if you require anything or any help, please contact the main office:

Some pupils have access to:

Go onto Nessy Reading and Spelling each day:

https://learn.nessy.com/account/login#/accountLogin

Numeracy

Check out Number rock on Youtube

If you are looking for a fun way to help your child at home with maths, the YouTube channel “Numberock” is a fantastic resource.
The channel focuses on maths songs which are fun and engaging and more suitable for P4-7. They cover a range of maths topics from times tables to measure. To find it, just go onto youtube and type in “Numberock” and the channel should come up.

Literacy

P1-P7 Phonics activities:

Throughout the school, we approach spelling by investigating phonemes (or sounds) and this approach is used from P1-7 as well as looking at spelling rules and patterns.

BBC Bitesize have a list of short video clips that would allow pupils to hear the sound and have short exercises after listening. The videos would be most appropriate for P2-4. To access them, copy and paste the link below or google search “BBC Bitesize ks1 phonics”.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zcqqtfr

To support your child at home, you could help them learn their sounds by singing the Jolly Phonics songs with them. Go to the songs via this link or search ‘Jolly phonics t’ (or any other letter they are learning) through youtube.

Daily Writing

Each day watch Newsround each day and write a short piece of writing about it:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround

Remember to bring it to school when you return.

French

French is being taught from P1 through to P7 with a focus on listening and talking in the target language. In class, phrases and vocabulary are introduced and then applied to a variety of activities, whether it be working in pairs having short conversations, playing games or completing translation activities. A useful website that can help practice pronunciation is BBC Bitesize KS2 French which is aimed at pupils in P5-7. Follow the link below or google search “BBC Bitesize KS2 French” to access it.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z39d7ty

The website has a game called “Dash and Blink: Forgotten French” which is super for revising vocabulary. The main section that I think will be helpful is the section near the bottom called “Topic”. If you click on a topic, it takes you to a new page where you can click to hear French people pronounce the vocabulary associated with that topic.

I hope some of you will find this helpful, bonne chance!

Health and Wellbeing

GoNoodle provides fun, free movement and mindfulness videos with a focus on wellness and increasing socio-emotional health for kids age 5-12. The videos are super interactive and fun for kids to do along with parents. Both web and app versions are available.

Welcome back WOW!!

We are delighted that we had our first WOW session today for all pupils.  It was great to be outside and developing our skills – and the sun was shining 😎.  We were focussed on developing our balance and co-ordination skills and also our teamwork and communication skills!  We had great fun and cannot wait until next Wednesday.  We need to remember to come to school on a Wednesday in our WOW clothes – school tshirt / jumper, leggings/joggers/shorts and trainers.

Look at us go! We were learning to use the stilts! It was a little tricky but we got there!

We were developing our teamwork and communication skills!

Primary PE

As you will be aware, government guidance on PE has been updated.  PE can now be delivered inside.  Where possible, weather permitting, we will continue to deliver PE outside for this term.

PE Timetable:

Monday    P3 and P1

Tuesday   P3/2 and P2/1

Wed         P4 and WOW (all pupils) WOW will start next week (01.09.2021)

Thurs       P7F and P7J

Fri            P6 and P5

For PE pupils require to wear a PE kit – a school tee-shirt, a school jumper / fleece, leggings / joggers, shorts  and gym shoes (for indoor use only).

Where possible pupils should wear their PE kit on their PE days and for WOW and gym shoes should stay in their bag, for when needed.  Shorts can be worn under their leggings / joggers to avoid getting changed.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

P7 Personal Research Project

Last week P7s were asked to start thinking about what they would each like to choose to research for their projects.

Ideas discussed include: animals, cars, sports, countries, cities, our solar system, rainforests, famous artists, ancient Egypt… the possibilities are endless!

Primary 7s, please be ready to tell me your topic of choice tomorrow (Tuesday).  You will be given some time in class tomorrow afternoon to begin.

Further information can be found on our P7 team page.
