SKI BLOCK AT NEWMILNS SNOW AND SPORTS COMPLEX

A new Active Schools Block starts today from 4pm – 6pm at NEWMILNS SNOW AND SPORTS COMPLEX.  The price for each block (5 weeks) is £47.50, which is only £9.50 per pupil per week.  These sessions are heavily subsidised and are the cheapest way to learn how to ski.  In addition to learning a new skill, or improving one, they will improve their confidence, build resilience and learn how to encourage each other and work as a team.

Bus can be organised, if enough interest, and pupils collected from school at end of the day and returned to school for parental collection after session.  Please contact Miss Mair if this would be of interest – joanne.mair2@eastayrshire.org.uk

Have you received a ‘Migration’ Notice asking you to claim Universal Credit?

Once a migration notice is received

When asked to claim Universal Credit, you need to do so.

Starting from November 2023, East Ayrshire residents who currently claim Tax Credits only (Child Tax Credit/ Working Tax Credit) will start to receive a notification from Department for Work and Pensions ‘inviting’ them to claim Universal Credit.

This migration process will then move on to other working age claimants on older income based benefits, called legacy benefits.

You will have 3 months from the date the letter is issued, known as the deadline date, to make an application for Universal Credit.

If you need advice or support, please do not wait until the deadline has passed, or leave it until that date to ask for assistance in making a claim for Universal Credit.

You could lose financial support if you do not act when asked to make the claim.

Contact Maureen your Financial Inclusion Officer for advice or support.

Term 2 in Primary 7

We have had a busy term, especially the last couple of weeks and everyone is now getting very excited for the Christmas holidays!

During this term we have developed our writing skills by learning about how to use commas for different purposes and how to write reports, including a newspaper report.  We have started a topic about World War Two and, so far, have learned about when and why it began, which countries were involved and about evacuation.  In Maths and Numeracy, the focus has been on telling the time, doing speed, distance and time calculations, and  identifying factors, multiples and prime numbers.  We have also revised how to do written calculations for addition and subtraction.

In the lead up to Christmas we have learned about Advent and looked at famous paintings of the Nativity story.  We made Christingles and created our own Nativity art, choosing either pencils, pastels or paint.

For the Christmas Fayre, we worked in teams and used our food preparation skills to make dog biscuits.  Everyone did brilliantly and the home-made packaging looks great too!

Today we have been using the ‘Hour of Code’ site to develop some computer coding skills by helping the Grinch save Christmas.

Christmas Lunch

Just a wee reminder that the Christmas lunch for pupils is this Friday (8th December).  All pupils can wear a Christmas jumper / t-shirt on this day.

There is a rail of festive clothing outside the dinner hall at the end of every day – please take what you need.  As part of the Christmas Swap Shop we would be happy to accept any festive jumper which no longer fits your child.
