What a lovely sunny week we’ve been having so far to welcome us back to Term 4!
This week in Numeracy and Mathematics we have been going over how to solve multi-step word problems, with a little help from bar modelling. Many of us found this challenging and it is something we will continue to practise. We have also started a unit of work on time and have revised how to tell the time on analogue, digital and 24 hour clocks.
Our reading and writing has focused on researching for information and making notes in order to write a non-chronological report. Each pupil worked with a learning partner to find out about pandas and then used their findings to present a report either as a PowerPoint, leaflet of word document. Everyone made sure to find information from more than one source.
S.T.E.M took the form of the Mission to the Moon Rocket Competition. The class were challenged to build a rocket using K-Nex and junk modelling materials. There were some rules though: it had to be able to stand on its own, have a window and nose cone, have fins, be at least 20cm tall and display the ‘Clean Green East Ayrshire’ logo. Everyone made a great effort but only some of the rockets made it through the strict success criteria to reach the voting stage.

Well done to Riley, Aiden and Logan who came in 3rd place.

Well done to Millie, Loren and Nevaeh in 2nd place.

Congratulations to Kammy whose rocket was the winning design.

Primary 7 Personal Research Projects: the success criteria and instructions have been given out for this homework task, pupils have had a chance to look at examples and ask questions, it is now up to them to decide what they would like to research for their project. Final projects are not due in until the 24th May, so there is plenty of time to get stuck in and complete the task.
Sports Championships: Over the next 4 weeks we will be training for and carrying out the P6-7 Sports Championships. It would be helpful for pupils to have their gym kits with them daily as there will be some additional P.E sessions to allow all events to be completed.

We have the scholastic book fair in school and books will be on sale next week. Pupils will view the books on Friday and Monday and then there is a timetable (see below) where families can purchase the books. The school then gets a percentage of the funds and we use these to buy prizes for prizegiving or books for the class library.
If you are able to assist with the selling of the books on the Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday or Thursday morning could you please contact the school office. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
The cost of the book can either be paid in cash or by scanning a QR code and apple pay etc can be used.

Good morning Everyone,
I hope that everyone is well rested after a super Easter holiday and that you have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine.
Our first week back has so far been busy with a fun outdoor activity on Monday afternoon where we built some rockets using twigs for the East Ayrshire Trip to the Moon competition. Thank you to those of you who collected twigs for us.
In Numeracy this week, we have been learning more about the coins which we use everyday here in the UK and also the four main monetary notes which we use most frequently too. We have been using our amazing addition and multiplication skills to work out how many coins we would need to pay for items with specific price tags. In particular, we have been trying to find the fewest number of coins needed to pay for the items. It has been very interesting to see how familiar pupils are with coins because there are so many reports now of people using cards to pay for our shopping these days instead of notes and coins.
In Literacy we have been learning about Summarising and read the next two chapters of our Class Novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to practise our new skills. Summarising is not easy to achieve and over the next few weeks we shall continue to practise this skill.
Under the amazing guidance of Miss Gibson, pupils continue with their Lego Challenge and this week there has been some coding involved which I am sure they will be most excited to tell you about.
For now I wish you all a happy Thursday,
Best wishes,
Miss Steedman

Good morning,
We have had a busy start to this week learning a new sound, exploring a story through purposeful play to support our class work in maths and language. In addition we took part in a competition ‘mission to the moon’. For the competition we built rockets and if you click the link below you can see how we got on.
Have a good week.

Good morning everyone!
I hope you all had a great holiday and we’re off to great start for the last term of Primary 4. Here’s a peak at what we’ve been up to:
In Maths we have been starting to look our new focus of fractions. We have done some revision on what fractions are and tested our prior knowledge on halves and quarters. We have found that fractions is linked to our multiplication and division knowledge and so continuing to practice our times tables in class and at home is important!
In Literacy we have been continuing our novel from last term “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and developing our metalinguistics skills and how we can find the meaning of new or unfamiliar words. Yesterday we got our hands dirty and planted our sweetcorn seeds, which provided a focus for our instruction writing. Everyone worked really hard to provide extra details to make sure their instructions were easy to understand.
In other areas, we have found out our new topic is going be the Egyptians! Everyone was really interested in different areas of the topic including finding out how they built the pyramids, what their daily life was like and how they made mummies. Now everyone has had a chance to say what they would like to learn about, we hope to dive in next week. We have also set ourselves some good targets to achieve this term, I’m sure we can do it!
For Outdoor learning we took part in the Mission to Moon competition and joined forces with P4S to design and build a rocket out of natural materials found outside. Pupils gathered sticks, grass and rocks and used their critical skills to help them create their designs. Great job and fabulous fun!

We’re off to a great start, can’t wait for the rest of term!
Have a great weekend

Welcome back, I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are looking forward to our final term.
Primary 6 have had a busy and productive first week back. Here’s what we’ve been doing.
In Literacy, we read the next couple of chapters in our class novel. We found out one of the main characters had a secret talent. We then wrote about a special talent we have or would like to have and how we discovered it. For spelling, the focus was words with the suffixes _sion and _ssion. We also had lots of discussions around news items and our space topic.
This week in Numeracy, we began learning about percentages and explored the link with fractions and decimals. We all gave it 100% effort! We took our learning outdoors for our maths focus which was using measuring equipment to find the length and width of various objects. We had to accurately measure in metres, centimetres and millimetres.
We continued our Space topic and this week. We learned about different types of galaxies. We then moved on to exploring the Solar System. We now know the names and order of the planets, how they orbit the sun and the huge distances across the solar system. It was a lot to get our head around. We used collage skills and worked with a partner to create a picture of the planets. Today, we are designing and making models of the solar system using coat hangers, string and various art resources.
For PE, we are practising for the P6 and P7 Sports Championship. We will be using throwing, jumping and running skills in 5 different events. We all enjoyed a sunny WOW session on Wednesday. Hopefully this good weather continues.
Enjoy the rest of the week and have a lovely weekend.
