Everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying the new topic – please sing the song you have learned to someone at home.

We have also been learning the song about the months of the year too!

Our Challenge for week beginning 14th September is to read a book for 15-20 minutes (or longer if you wish) everyday.  You will all be given a new reading book on Monday so you can use that one if you wish.

Take care everyone and have a very happy weekend! See you on Monday and we will catch up then!

P6W: week beginning 7th September 2020

This week has been very busy and I’m sure we’re looking forward to a restful weekend.

Well done to those pupils who got their name on our Recognition Board everyday.  Superb! – keep it up!

We have started our Science topic on Forces and Friction and have been investigating the forces we use in our everyday lives.  In Numeracy and Maths we have been exploring different ways to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit as well as revising digital and analogue time. The focus in Literacy has been looking at the features of narrative text to help us plan, structure and write interesting stories.  We have continued to look at how to develop a Growth Mindset and we used visualisation to illustrate what this means.

Home Challenge:

  • read a narrative text (fiction story / novel) for at least 15 minutes – take a note of your starting time and finishing time and record these times in digital and analogue format  e.g. Starting Time:  7.30pm /  half past 7 in the evening                                                                       Finishing Time: 7.45pm / quarter to 8 in the evening

Enjoy your weekend.

P7 – Week beginning 7th September

Everyone in P7 has been working extremely hard this week!  We have had two consecutive days with all pupils achieving our recognition board target of listening well and giving their best effort; well done P7s!

We have been busy developing problem solving skills through investigating different number systems.  Challenge: teach someone at home how to use Roman numerals.

For science, we carried out another experiment to find out why we use soap, and not just water, when washing our hands.  We are getting good at predicting what we think will happen in an experiment and giving reasons, before finding out the actual results.

The atmosphere in the classroom was of total concentration while doing imaginative writing on Wednesday; I was very impressed by the motivation and enthusiasm around the room!

Home Learning Tasks – 14.09.20

  • Continue trying to read for 15-30minutes each day.  This could be reading on your own, with an adult or reading a story to a younger sibling.
  • The power of positive thinking – at the end of each day, I would like you to think of the best thing(s) about your day.  You can choose to write these down as a daily list or tell someone in your family.  Think of anything that has made you smile or feel good that day.  Examples: feeling proud of a piece of work; someone giving you a compliment; you doing something kind for someone else; having your favourite dinner; seeing a friend or relative; hearing a funny joke; taking part in a game; spending time with a pet…
  • Keep practising any times tables you find tricky.

Please remember a rain jacket on Monday for our outdoor session.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Johnstone

P6P Week Beginning 31st August 2020

Hello P6,

We have made it to week four already. Everyone has made a great start and are settling in well to the new routines – well done.

There has been lots of great work going on so far in class. Last week were were revising place value, writing interesting stories and having lots of fun with drama, as well as enjoying reading the Roald Dahl novel ‘Matilda’. We also had a visit from Mrs White who took us outside to learn more about maths in the outdoors and we all found it really interesting.

HOME CHALLENGE 07/09/20

Have a think about one of your best days ever. Why was it the best day ever? How did you feel? I look forward to you sharing your stories in class throughout the week. We will be building on these ideas in this weeks piece of writing.

Have a lovely evening.

P3 Week beginning 7th September

P3 had a busy week last week with lots going on. We had a visit on Wednesday from Mrs White and had a great time doing some outdoor learning. First we tried to make a triangle shape using the whole class, then tried to find some triangular shapes in the playground. After that we started a story about some pirates, then tried out our pirate actions and voices ~ with most of us scaring Mrs White in the end!

In maths we were learning about doubles and near doubles – ask about what kind of numbers the answers to all doubles are.

We got our reading up and going, and some people managed to be star reader in their group with super reading aloud skills.

We designed our own pirate flags with some scary results, and also thought about what would be a treasure to us.

Here is the link to the home learning for this week.

Monday 7th September 2020

Hello everyone

We have been back at school for 3 weeks now and it has been lovely to see all the children again. The children have all settled back into school really well and are enjoying playing with their friends and getting back to learning new things at school. We have  become really good  at  remembering to wash and sanitize  our hands regularly .It’s part of our daily routine now!

In class we have been practising the key words for our reading books as well as the common words and this week you  will have a list of the key words and a card with the common words in a polly pocket in our school bag. You can practise these at home but only the spelling of the  common words  need to be practised.

In the polly pocket you may have a reading book to read and discuss at home .

In Numeracy we have been practising addition ,odd and even and we have been learning to partition the teen numbers as well as Shape and Measure. Our topic at the moment  is The Weather and the children have  enjoyed painting weather pictures and testing waterproof materials as well as spending time outdoors when we can !
